In a comment (http://www.teleread.org/blog/?p=6717#comment-421048) to a review of the Nokia N800 (http://www.teleread.org/blog/?p=6717) Internet Tablet at Teleread (http://teleread.org/blog/), reader Paul Biba noted that he just purchased an N800 from Amazon.com via Tiger Direct (http://www.amazon.com/Nokia-N800-Internet-Tablet-PC/dp/B000MK4GGM/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/103-2808468-2212662?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1182264076&sr=8-1) for $327.99.

I've seen new N800's selling for as low as $300 at eBay, but this is the lowest major-retailer price I've encountered so far.Read the full article. (http://www.internettablettalk.com/2007/06/19/n800-for-32999-at-amazoncom/)

I picked one up this weekend at Amazon. There is no sales tax, either.

Sorry, think I'll keep my $170 NIB 770 which included 2 512mb and 1 2gb rs-mmc cards. Suits my purposes for now, but I am eagerly waiting for the hypothetical N900 to see if an upgrade is in order.

The Amazon price keeps varying. I noticed this even before the sale. When I checked earlier today (after the post in this thread where someone mentioned it was no longer on sale), it was $339.99. Now when I look it is $353.99. Before the sale, it was usually around $363.99.

Hmmm its funny in the UK£ thats only about £15oish- however The cheapest I have seen it for is still £250 (second hand on EBay too) Some how I think we get ripped off over here.

yeah, it is a ripoff. you could get a cheap flight to the USA, buy three, have a brief holiday, sell two for 250 and have paid for your trip and got a cheap one for yourself!

And for only $28 more you can get a new N800 ($357.99) at amazon.

No - with as shady as tigerdirect is, I won't be touching a refurb from them.

Amazon also has a great return policy and 30-days price protection. If the price goes down within 30 days, file a report and you'll be credited the difference.

Well, you have to deduct the 17.5% UK VAT which the Americans don't have to pay, but even then you end up with about £200, £50 more than the American price.

All European hardware prices seem to be higher than American hardware prices, even ignoring VAT, probably because we seem willing to pay more, they milk the market for whatever it will give them. Games consoles are especially bad, the PS3 costs close to $900 in Europe, and its games cost about $80 to $100 each.
