Just picked up 2 770s for the room mate and I. Got a quick question though:

We're both heavy outlook users, and it would be beyond useful to be able to sync out Outlook Calendars, contact lists, and task lists between the tablet and the desktop. Anybody know of any free software to do this? We don't need to be able to do it via the web, syncing via cables is fine.

Free is important :)

Simply put no. It is possible for syncing but it requires very geeky configuration. Best bet is the pim suite gpe-pim with gpe-syncd. You could use dejadesktop but thats a subscription service.

I can deal with a nerdy configuration. Will it be mostly easy, or should I go stock up on aspirin?

Additionally, where can I get the software?

Another approach (and one I've used) is to use ScheduleWorld to sync your Outlook calendar up to the SyncML server (using a free Outlook plugin), and then configuring GPE Calendar or Dates to update from the iCal feed within your ScheduleWorld account.

Hmm, ok. Looks like I'll have a few options to try out tomorrow when I get my 770.

anybody else with any other suggestions?

Syncing contacts is not an easy option I would say look at this
http://www.scheduleworld.com/tg/addressbook.jsp
For calendar there is the excellent erminig.

Thanks but this is not really synchronizing with Outlook. Don't know why this is so complex.

Well there is no commercial app for syncing with the IT, I think if people were willing to pay money for it there probably would be, maybe even Nokia will someday release something, unfortunately you may have noticed there is no native PIM to the ITOS so I don't think this is high up on their list of to-do's.
Too bad exchange and outlook are proprietary closed source applications.

accessing outlook information is very doable. i have this book -
http://www.amazon.com/Programming-Applications-Microsoft-Office-Outlook/dp/0735622493/ref=pd_bbs_9/103-4672237-4316646?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1184808880&sr=8-9
and have been using it to program some custom apps in outlook (C#).

i may explore this idea as a side project. it would be cool to sync data from an outlook address book to the nokia.

Not to beat a dead horse, but what about a port of this to Maemo:

http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSync

I dumped Exchange earlier this year in favor of eGroupWare. Looks like OpenSync with it's MLSync support could allow sync between GPE and eGroupWare for the killer open source office suite.
