View Full Version : A petition for a keybored on the n950
CraigRobbo

After a quote that the N950 is likley not to have a hardware keybored and i think im right in saying most of us here(if not all) want it to have one.
Can we set up a petition to send into nokia to hopefully get them to put one on...
This could be the last 'real' nokia.

Guaranteed that with the new corporate frak-the-usr policy
there is a zero chance of having a hw keyboard.
This just in: the n900 was the last final 'real' nokia.

This is the source for possibly no keybored, but its stated on a few sites so although its not confirmed its a possobility - we should stop that me thinks
http://www.dialtosave.co.uk/mobile/news/2011/02/28/nokia-n950-to-be-first-meego-device-coming-this-year/
And renaming the thread, i guess you could ask a mod but i would imagine with that kind of title not many people would want to look at it and therefore less would sign the petition.

Actually the N950 is keybored compliant. It's bored of keys and forgos them for a large capacitive touch screen.
You did it! Congratulations on all the success of this thread and petition.

They are crazy or dummy?
We want a real keyboard, the possibility to retreive the battery, MeeGo/Maemo and not this funny Windows Mobile 7 and the most powerfull phone in the World!
Hey, Nokia, open your eyes, the world wait that, the world want that!

Am I the only one who is not that worried about the keyboard?
I know I am using the keyboard every time I have to input text on the N900... But I did not bother with the keyboard most of the time with the N810.
So I suppose I will wait and see...
Besides, my N900 is not yet one year old.

Hey, Nokia, open your eyes[...]
They abandoned this entire community (OK, after four devices, granted :)) in order to make a WP7 device. What makes you think they'll take notice of this one thread?

Oh be serious! If Nokia really plans to release a Meego-related product, be it a phone or whatever, the testing of any prototypes has begun from the moment of N9-00 cancellation. Or even earlier !!!
And if Nokia said the N950 will be keyboard-less, it means that the prototype they are surely testing NOW (because if they're not, they will not release the Meego-related product in due time) is touchscreen-only.

I agree with this petition - I would love the N950 to have a keyboard.
BUT then alot of people will NOT buy it (i.e. the iphone/android crowd who like slim phones), this is exactly who Nokia need to convince.
So I would love to have a H/W keyboard, but I would gladly give it up if it meant the N950 was a SUPER SUPER success and Nokia get the hint that Meego is that way to go - which means we get MORE Meego devices?
I know it's not ideal and not particularly fond of the FART app likers - but it's the way of the world, I'm sure most of you would agree!

For me, I would like the N900 successor device to have a hardware keyboard. However, the statement about style, and a quest for a more mass-market appeal, probably mean it won't, unfortunately.

There's always the pissabolity (is that how you spell it?:p) of one of those snap-on bluetooth keyboards being produced for it.
But then again, that would open us up to bluejacking.

Unfortunately the average user is not interested in "geek toys" like the N900. They want the slimmest phone in the world that requires an IQ of a duck to operate. Its sad but to be honest i feel happy to be part of a niche market.
My brother, mum, dad and grandma all have iPhones.

I've been happy with the N800, which, of course, lacks a keyboard. And I value pocketability and light weight.
Nonetheless, "even I" think the N950 should have a hardware keyboard. With Nokia's stated intention to release the N950 as yet another experiment for hobbyists and those remaining developers whom they haven't already managed to drive from their ever-changing Linux platforms, they would have to be idiots not to include a hardware keyboard. So I guess there won't be one.

So if Nokia do release a keyboard less device.
How hard would it be to build a wallet type case with a small bluetooth keyboard built in.
It seems to me we must have people within this community that could design such a thing?

It's a really good idea but I think it would drain the battery at a far higher rate.

Take a N950 without a keyborg?
Never for me!
When I choose my N900, the keyboard was one point of my choose and some no-geeks users want a physical keyboard to write SMS, mails and more.
Don't forget that BlackBerry users have the keyboard aigan!
And it's possible to have a slim powefull phone with a physical keyboard...

not too fussed either way, i like the keyboard on my n900 but would be equally happy to exchange that advantage for a slimline design.

More people will buy the n950 when its slim a light. So no keyboard please. No they won't, the "slim and light" folks will go for the iPhone or one of the hundred keyboard-less Android phones. It depends what their target market is, but if it is the same target market as the N900 they'll probably halve their sales by dropping the keyboard. I won't buy the N950 if it doesn't have a keyboard, I'd rather wait and see if some other manufacturer produces a decent Meego device with a keyboard, if forced to I'd go with a Android with a keyboard.

The Nokia E7 is slim and have a keyboard, so please, a keyboard and a resistive multipoint touchscreen (or a capacitive with a pen to draw and use on very cold winters).
Looks the E7, it's slim or not?
The E7 have a keyboad... :D

I petition that the following petitions be considered:
* Petition to include spellchecker in N950
* Petition for N97M/E7 or N900 formfactor with proper keyboard for N950
* Petition to stop petitioning for petitions

If people see a stylish phone with a nice UI many will buy it. No matter if its not an iphone or does not run android. The n950 should not be another freak phone IMO, rather a stylish mutlimedia handset for common folks. For business people meego probably does not offer enough.

same here.. I need a keyboard. only think i am stuck on is that i would have to switch to at&t.. i left at&t for t-mobile so i could get the n900.. now i have to switch back? That sucks. now that i have experienced the low prices and great customer service of tmo i don' tknow i fi can go back to at&t.. i will probably go to sprint and some android device especially once this stupid merger is underway

I want the physical keyboard and think that it is something of a false argument that you can't have a nice, light device with both a physical keyboard and a large capacitive touch screen. You can have both! HTC did a pretty good job of producing both in a single device, and Nokia, which is so overdue with the successor to the N900, should be able to do it, too.
So, Nokia, stop making compromise products and make something that looks good and has a physical keyboard!

05-02-2011, 02:42 AM
Looking at the promiss, it MUST have a physical keyboard, hence it has been called the sucessor of the N900. (N7X0 -N8X0 N900) So if it won't, we have all been mislead! :O
