What the hell is Metalayer Crawl and why is it wasting CPU cycles? !!

And anyone know why Canola Config is maxing CPU cycles? I'm about to toss this app!

It is a little Nokia Demon (definitely Demon and not Daemon in this case) which scans through your filesystem looking for media files to index. It is a common source of "my CPU is at 100%" and "my memory cards keep mysteriously dying" complaints. It just love my SD card with 80,000 Maemo Mapper maps.

Metacrawler's biggest defect is that one cannot easily instruct it to scan only specific directories (and sub-directories thereof) or exclude directories from scanning. One can do so by editing metalayer's startup script, but what is really needed is a control panel app. The lack of end user friendly exposure of things like this and power management functions really irks me.

Canola Config does the same kind of thing. If *both* are maxing out your CPU, check for corrupted media files (although these should be handled) and recursive loops using symlinks.
