Hi all.

I'm trying to install MiniMo on my N770, but I believe it requires the Herring repo, whatever that is. Unfortunately, the site where this is alleged to be held (http://repository.maemo.org) doesn't mention herring at all.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks!

It's there.

Just go to Application Manager.

Then from its dropdown menu, access the Application Catalogue in 'Tools'.

Add in one for http://repository.maemo.org and put down 'herring' and then 'main' in the two fields under the URL.

Should work fine.

Ah, I'm showing my ignorance again!

Thanks very much indeed.

Although I say that - I've done the above, and it doesn't show anything herring-related in the refreshed application list. Am I being an idiot?

Thanks.

Herring is a repository, and some of the packages in the Herring repository will contain system libraries which don't show up in the application list. Herring will also contain applications that are already present in other repositories so don't expect to see any new applications by adding Herring.

you should get that: Add/Edit this entry into "new catalogue": web address: http://www.maemo.org.br/minimo/ Distribution: bora Components: user
"Refresh list" and go to "Browser Installable applications" pick "Minimo".

Maybe one of the reasons you don't see the system libraries that Milhouse talks about is because you don't have the "Red Pill" mode set in application manager. Do a site search for Red Pill. Using this mode allows more advanced applications to show up in app mangr. I got tripped up by that one trying to get OpenSSH installed.

Hi,

I have problems to install minimo in my Nokia 770 (OS2006). I have tried all that I found that I could try.

I tried from the application manager, with red pill, without it, with herring, with maemo.org.br as repository. Every time it dowload minimo and when installing a message pops up "Unable to install".

I also tried to install the libraries directly from the website but it says that the version are incompatible with my OS. Also I tried to install the libraries with red pill but I could not find the same library, I found for example libice-dev instead of libice6.... any way, I could not install them either.

Any ideas, I am doing something wrong or it is just that my OS does not support minimo?

Thanks,
-as

To successfully install MiniMo on the 770, follow these instructions exactly: (credit goes to begemot)

1) Turn on Red Pill Mode:

http://www.deal-times.com/General-Talk/Nokia-770-Internet-Tablet/Activating-Red-Pill-mode.html

2) Follow instructions here:

http://www.deal-times.com/General-Talk/Nokia-770-Internet-Tablet/Mini-FireFox-mozilla-based-MINIMO-browser-for-Nokia-770.html

Done

Note that the second link has everything you need for an install, no repositories needed.

Well, it worked. After it didn't with the last procedure of jlomein I tried with apt-get (with the procedure I could install the libraries but not minimo). I realized a problem in the output and I guess a disk utilziation problem. My root partition was full. So I erased some applications and I after that I could install minimo with the application manager.

Thanks
