It's still very buggy. Freezes easily, cant forward for backward without that shrill irritating sound.

Anyway, the tutorial is here :

Hello,

I am going to pull the plug off the irunvlc.me domain and put an end to
VLC for Nokia N9/N950. The project is inactive due to lack of time and
motivation. The N9 handheld is no longer on sale anywhere (as far as I
know), and I am going to loose my job with Nokia. So I have no intention to
revive it.

If someone wants to transfer the domain, please contact me off-list within
a month - before it expires.

Regards,

It would be really nice if someone or a team of devs take up this project for completion, the reason being the weakness of the stock video player, which can hardly play any video without stuttering.. There is a real need for some alternative video player which can handle different formats & res video playback....
Hoping for the best.

do the sources rebuild ?

I think so, but we need a proper QML or MWidget GUI. (I would prefer MWidget for some reasons.)
And we need to test if bellagio (opensource omxil standard) runs fine on Harmattan.
Vlc could use DSP then.

So, this project is dead?
No one that can make a port of VLC on MeeGo/Harmattan?

I'm sorry but i'm a noob in this stuff; I'm just a nokia and linux fan.

No the project is not really dead. This is just some work.

Rzr like I could do it, but when working full-time, this is kinda slow.

Currently, I'm building the source, next MWidget UI.
And then bellagio so we could use the maximum out of the N9.

But for bellagio, I don't know yet how bleeding edge it is.

cheers!

I can no longer install VLC since I upgraded to PR 1.3: Aegis error. I tried with ariadne and incept, but it doesn't work.

I cannot help but I support you in this task. VLC is a great addition to the N9's list of applications (although more work would be needed to make it more useable, at the moment for example I see no way to quit fullscreen mode except by closing the application (on the N950 the keyboard may help)).

http://www.irunvlc.me/ domain is dead. Hopefully someone behind the scenes is still working on VLC for N9...

Is there any way we can load sub titles along with .avi files? Does the default player on N9 takes it automatically?

I emailed the guy that ported VLC several months ago and he had no plans to develop it further. He did not have the time to develop an interface himself, nor pass the Store requirements. If nobody takes over, then the port will stay as is.

I can help with the GUI graphics, but not the porting.

You should have a look at the Open Video Player which supports subtitle, while VLC hasn't reached maturity on harmattan! ;)

Well Open Video Player too hasn't been receiving much love from marxian so its really scrapping the end of the barrel for a proper video player for the n9...

True.
An optimized version of VLC with Harmattan GUI would be a killer.

Doesn' t look alike, unless some talented devs like you take over... Will you give it a try?

It was mostly working before, is anybody able to share the deb files now?

This is looking to my only chance to get a viable upnp/dlna player on N9

Wow, major mental blank on my behalf.

As somebody posted earlier, here's a backup (http://maemo-archive.wedrop.it/download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/maemo/vlc/)

BUT, these appear to not be the latest version, as the install instructions cited here (http://mynokiablog.com/2011/10/30/tutorial-how-to-install-vlc-on-your-nokia-n9n950/), show verson 1.2, and the backed-up version is only 1.1

Also, I've been unsuccessful in installing it as of yet, appears to have worked, but no icon appears..

Apparently these need to installed too:
libatk1.0-0
libgtk2.0-0
libhildon1
libhildonfm2
libnotify1
libosso-gnomevfs2-0
libosso1
libxdmcp6
vlc-player-nox

Here you go, VLC Player 1.2.0 for Harmattan N9/N950
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?dyd7mp6os9fm0ty

the zip file includes:
libvlc5_1.2.0~git-1_armel.deb
vlc-player_1.2.0~git-1_armel.deb

Just extract them into a new empty folder and use the terminal to install them with root:

dpkg -i *.deb

Enjoy! :)
