View Full Version : Machine Abruptly Drops Dead - Any Ideas?

I complained in the travel thread somewhere that the 770 "on" button was getting pushed inside my briefcase, resulting in a dead battery. A faulty assumption on my part, as it turns out.

Since coming off the road, I have twice awakened to a dead 770. In both instances, the battery gauge showed green up to the top when I went to bed. The next day the screen was black and the unit wouldn't turn on. Once I plug in the power adaptor and wait a minute, the 770 will start normally.

Before subjecting myself to the 770-ignorant people at the Nokia free phone number, does anyone else have what seems like a bad battery gauge, or bad battery, or some other charging or power issue?

This morning after discovering the dead 770, I also shut it down and removed the battery for a moment, but that was all this techno-peasant could think of to try....

I have had the same thing happen once or twice. My theory was that a process kept the wlan turned on. Since I saw it, I always turn off the wlan before I put the case on and haven't seen it again.

Yes thanks Dreaming, I had a similar thought and so pushed the power button last night so that the BT and WLAN icons had red lines through them, which I thought would kill any connections to anything. Unless the machine is sneaking out communications some other way.........

The 770 turns its wifi off automatically when you close the lid. A program that wants to keep using wifi can't really "accidentally" leave it turned on.

Were you playing music? I believe that if you leave the sound player in the paused state, it actually leaves the DSP turned on. I don't recall the details, but if what I recall hearing is true, that might explain things.

Nope not playing music - into fact no pattern of use other than using the browser. I think the comment about things running with the cover closed, refers to possible or suspected malfunction.
