x11vnc - key from remote no longer works

It has been a while since I last used x11vnc, but now I find that the key is no longer recognized from the remote computer. I have tried it from two different computers as remotes: both running Ubuntu & both connecting to x11vnc with xtightvncviewer.

The only thing that I can think that could affect this & might have changed in the intervening time is CSSU-Testing.

Can anyone else reproduce this issue?

So I've had my N900 sitting in my desk for like 6 months. I couldn't get the display to work one day, it wouldn't vibrate at boot either, I replaced the ribbon cable but I still didn't get anything on screen. Today I pulled it out and plugged it into USB and my screen comes on to the little Nokia thing with a USB icon, but as soon as I actually try to boot it the screen goes blank. I flashed both the eMMC and the Fiasco image but I still get no picture after I boot. My TV-Out started working so. Any ideas guys?

Compare microSD card benchmarks?

With a bunch of new 64GB cards on the market, it would be nice to share some comparable benchmarks on how different microSD cards actually perform in the N900. This thread seeks first to define what is a useful, comparable benchmark, then to propose a standardised, non-destructive benchmarking method using tools available on the N900, and finally to ask users to contribute some benchmarks.

Criteria for simple but useful benchmarking

We seek to test the performance of a given microSD card under common and comparable conditions, which should also be non-destructive and readily accessible to a majority of users. That means no repartitioning, so for the purposes of this comparison we'll have to be content to benchmark the performance of a FAT32 file system on our microSD. This can still yield good comparative data, if done under controlled conditions, and maybe a separate thread is in order for benchmarking non-standard configurations?

Testing should take place under Maemo 5 on the N900 itself, and not introducing USB, Ethernet, WiFi or any other corrupting factors such as a host computer or operating system. This implies using one of the standard filesystem benchmarking tools available for the N900, probably either bonnie++ or iozone. I'm playing with both at the moment and I would welcome informed argument in favour of either one.

But, so far, it looks like we're talking about performing a bonnie++ benchmark under at least vaguely controlled conditions, then combining this with sufficient information about the microSD card being tested as to form a credible, comparable report. Opinions invited as to what information you'd want included in such a report for it to be "useful".

Proposed testing & reporting methods

Merely running bonnie++ against a FAT32 filesystem on a microSD card in an N900 should yield some useful data if enough people will oblige, however, there's no control for variations in CPU speed or filesystem fragmentation. What non-invasive actions should we sensibly take in the way of controlling our environment before running the benchmark? In particular, should we lock the CPU speed (to 600MHz) when we detect kernel-power, or should we just assume that the users we care about will (mostly) be running 900MHz + SmartReflex?

Also, the resultant report is only useful if it contains enough information to have some faith in the identification and the authenticity of the microSD card and to explain any anomalies. What information should we collect and report along with the benchmark?

I'm not going to post up a test script or benchmark output just yet, but I'd welcome input as to what to test and how to test it with a view to throwing together a simple script that others could use against different microSD cards to produce useful results. My thinking at the moment is to base the testing on bonnie++ and grab the SD card information from lshal; what else do we need?

When I've thrown a provisional script together I'll test my current Sandisk 16GB class 2 as a standard against which to compare...

Reducing battery use of Skype, how to?

Can anyone tell me how I can reduce the battery use now that I have a Skype account registered on my N900? (I heard that Skype is a major battery hog). It looks like having "availability" set to "offline" when I am not needing to use Skype will cause the Skype libraries/daemons not to be loaded, is this true or do I need to do something else to disable whatever bits of Skype hog battery and/or data connection?

Hi everybody,

I'm thinking about buying a (second hand) n900. Main reason for that device is the hardware keyboard as well as a "real" linux -- I *love* playing around :D

However, I do have a few concerns:
Is the hardware still powerful enough? To be honest, I've neither had a 1.5GHz quadcore nor a low-end 600MHz device in my hands. Reading online tells me, that as soon as quad cores are availible, everything below is "too slow". Of course I'm aware, that playing won't be that fun. That's not my interest though. I'd like to browse the web, do some geocaching and maybe wardriving (yeah, no more laptop carrying when warwalking :D) Aaaan, of course: I'd like to use the command line a lot ;)

How about encryption? I've heard a lot of bad stuff about Android/iOS when it comes to that point. Is there any possibility to do a full disk encryption? (I guess, it'd have a huge performance impact?) Yes, I'd like to enter a password everytime I boot this thing. Or is there already an implementation of securely storing my data? This is one of my main reasons for not having a smartphone yet.

Um... well, that's about it :)

To make it short: Would YOU invest 150+ US-Dollar for a used N900? :p

Call forwarding problem !!!

My n900 automatically turns on the forward option ! I turned it off by going in to setting>phone.. But it again turns on
I even flashed my n900 but no use :(

N900 cam shows operation failed

i recently bought a used nokia n900 from one of my friend. it worked fine for the past two months and now it shows operation failed when i take camera for taking snaps. the same problem had existed once before and just once and then it was gone all by itself within a coupl of day.am new to this platform and don't know much about the xterminal and all those stuff..a working solution is urgently required and thanx in advance for the replies....hope some one helps me soon as the problem persist for the past two weeks :mad:

Battery ran out, problem booting N900

Hi, I live in Canada.
Got 4 days ago new N900 (eBay).
It had some apps installed games etc.

has Rootish installed and I updated to latest OS. installed some other apps etc, was working fine. charged several times used made phone calls etc.

Problem started after:
yesterday battery fully ran out and the phone shut off.

Problem:
1. I plug in the wall charger into phone
2. Phone vibrates once and yellow light starts blinking for about 10 seconds, *pale "NOKIA" appears on screen.
Then yellow light and nokia disappear and screen goes black.
In 2 seconds everything repeats.

-I had it on charger overnight.

-I tested other battery today in store, phone got to color screen NOKIA and shut off.

When I plug in usb from computer red light blinks in corner instead of yellow.

any help appreciated. ty.

[I got Toshiba Laptop, Win Vista 64 home premium, have nokia PC suite installed)

UPDATE:
I noticed after the *pale "NOKIA" fades from screen and I press Power button it starts, reaches lit color NOKIA screen COLORED and then ... shuts off.

i created this thread just to put my simple shell scripts that im making.

Im still at starter stage which mean im learning now scripting.

this page will always be updated with my process in bash.
i uploaded a script that i made it is very simple its like Q&A (questions and answers) "it is all about 'echo' 'if' 'then' 'fi' and 'read' commands".

and please dont ask from where i learned this simple thing just rush it for google .

and i want to thank KARAM because he advice me about being a programmer.

you may need to install bash to run the script and please in x-terminal the font size should be 16 so you can read well.

the scrip about 103 lines..:)

finally please dont forget to comment after testing my scripts (for now i only uploaded one).

Touchscreen suddenly stops to works

Hi there! This morning the touchscreen was working perfectly, after a reboot it doesn't work anymore. It didn't get any crashes or anything similar. I tried to reflash the os with this guide http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_firmware#N900 but with no results ;( any other ideas?
