Re: Latest big name departure from Nokia: Rich Green, CTO

Bah. I was listening to the Linux Action Show today on my Zen while trimming bushes. When they brought up that a Nokia employee was officially on medical leave but unofficially got smacked for...

Re: Time for an open maemo fork?

What I and others have been asking of those who continue to say that MeeGo was "almost done" or "two months away" and (insert conspiracy here) is... show us MeeGo. Then we gets lots of huffing and...

Re: Time for an open maemo fork?

It wouldn't help you. MeeGo doesn't exist.

Nokia and open source – a trial by fire (http://www.h-online.com/open/features/Nokia-and-open-source-a-trial-by-fire-1194928.html) is a great summary of...

Re: YOU have killed MeeGo/Qt

Compatibility makes no sense if you're on the bottom. If you're the dominant player, you can say "See, we even run the other guy's apps, so we run everything! There's now no point going with the...

Question Re: Nokia Plan B

Soooo..... somehow Microsoft made Nokia lose market share for three years, then somehow made the board hire Elop, then made the board approve his plan... oh, and made the shareholders vote in that...

Re: Nokia Plan B

There is no MeeGo. MeeGo does not exist in a deployable form at this time. They decided not to pin their hopes on something they've spent a fortune on and is still not in a saleable form after...

You're not posting from a machine running Chulhubuntu, are you?

Re: Nokia Plan B

At one time Apple and Google had 3% market share too. WP7 is getting multitasking, hardware accelerated HTML5 (which blows away iPhone 4 in the YouTube video) and several other updates this year....

Re: Nokia Plan B

It reads like a few of we nerds upset that we're not getting a toy we were promised and are throwing a temper tantrum. I used to sound like this sometimes... 20 years ago, when I was 18 and just...

Re: Maybe the unpleasant truth is that MeeGo really was too late and/or not good enough?

I'll accede that that's certainly a possibility. Where I would like to disagree though is that at times I feel I have repeated myself in ways that ascend into the inhumanly possible. Please don't ask...

Non third-world nations. America, for instance. And if the Internet is a nation, then that's another good example. ;)

There's no neutral page that extolls the virtues of Symbian. Reviews of the N8...

Re: Maybe the unpleasant truth is that MeeGo really was too late and/or not good enough?

And ten billion Microsofties are working on it right now... not ten or fifteen Nokia employees. Microsoft started over from scratch and managed to produce WP7 and the first update. Despite the...

Re: Maybe the unpleasant truth is that MeeGo really was too late and/or not good enough?

Did I miss the sale of Nokia? Apple entered new markets. Nokia isn't in a position to do that, so Elop did the only thing he could do to fix problems NOW before the company entered a death spiral....

Re: Maybe the unpleasant truth is that MeeGo really was too late and/or not good enough?

They haven't given up anything. It was already gone. Major markets viewed Symbian the way they viewed station wagons... as outdated. Smart phones are the future and new buyers were not going to buy...

Re: My rescue plan for meego

That's an empty assertion, not an actual argument, which would have facts and logic connecting those facts. You just arbitrarily eliminated any OS option that wasn't MeeGo.

Google is battling...

Re: My rescue plan for meego

I think some people are upset because you admit you don't have superb managerial skill or business knowhow yet you seem to be second-guessing those who do (not that 90% of the posts here aren't doing...

Re: My rescue plan for meego

The question is, is there any community that really gets it and knows anything about companies? Is HP supposed to wave a magic wand and magically get their product finished, agreements with carriers,...

Re: Is there anything we can do??

Well, if you look at the facts you laid out a bit differently, you might reach slightly different conclusions. Yes, if you don't produce your own OS you have a lower profit margin. On the other hand,...

Lightbulb Re: Worth buying the nokia n900 now?

No. (Stop the booing!) Buy something like the Viliv N5 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mrN6SFslTw). That way you're not locked into MeeGo or ARM-based Linux. If MeeGo is still developed, you can...

Exclamation Re: Elop said N9 is a 2011 event. It's 2011! Where is it?

Check out this post of Andrew Wafaa's (http://www.wafaa.eu/entry/smeegol-nogo-meego-gogo-1-56.html). Wafaa becomes convinced that MeeGo, at least for netbooks, is dead before the Nokia announcement. ...

Re: Elop is the Sith...

I used this analogy earlier: Nokia is Luke Skywalker. Microsoft is Darth Vader. Both are battered after fighting each other for what seems like forever. Apple is Emperor Palpatine. This new alliance...

Hintry, how were you able to make it through the Ahonen piece? He rambles worse than I do. He was also dead wrong earlier, and his new piece completely lost me at this....

"Now the really silly...
