My issue with some contacts not wanting to sync was only related to how their numbers were saved in contacts.

I have to have +46 in front of the number which is my country code or the contacts...

I live in the U.S. but never managed to make it work neither on my old N900 nor on my new N9. On the N900 I was using the "Google Voice plug-in for Conversations and Calls". And that is what we need...
