I've now re-packaged cwiid for Maemo 5 - you can now use the (slightly more efficient?) wminput application from cwiid-utils instead of wiicontrol. Here's a quick HOWTO:

in file /home/opt/openarena/baseoa/autoexec.cfg
at the bottom, change the section shown below
set the numbers (default: 1) to 0 (zero)
