Re: Tizen?

Reinventing the wheel again ...

Delaying again ...

Changing the APIs and frameworks again ...

I only want a Debian/Ubuntu mobile computer. Today the only choice is the N900.

Re: Tizen?

If I would like to kill open source on Phones I would exactly follow
this strategy:

Invent Maemo, swap to Meego and then before it's known/working
go to the next. We should change between yup,...

Unhappy The End is Coming: What do we do next?

Here's my opinion about the future of Maemo and maemo.org. I am currently an (un-elected, volunteer) maemo community council member, and an avid member of this community for about 4 years.

Re: Striping swap to increase performance under memory contention

I can assure you that you did nothing wrong with applying the patches, assuming you edited in the same way I did originally. It's simply that Nokia added swap_remap to swapfile.c and that seems to...

Re: Striping swap to increase performance under memory contention

I've successfully rebuilt busybox from the N900 source and added the -p parameter. However, it doesn't pick up pri=X from /etc/fstab.

Re: [Announce] EBD - Enhanced Backlight Daemon

Yes, that would be nice. There is an opensource program "redshift" that does the same and it's packaged in (easy) debian. Problem is that it doesn't work, at least on my n900. Xrandr method does...

Re: [Announce] EBD - Enhanced Backlight Daemon

what would be nice is if you made this something like f.lux (http://stereopsis.com/flux/). though, i don't know if that's possible with the n900. and xflux just MIGHT be able to run on it. you never...

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

I can't see orientation lock applet? I even tried to reboot.

EDIT: You need to install status-area-orientationlock-applet :)

This is only an update for hildon-desktop actually:

Added global zoom in/out support, use CTRL+SHIFT+S (+) and CTRL+SHIFT+F (-) to zoom in and out.

Re: [Announce] EBD - Enhanced Backlight Daemon

FWIW, this works absolutely beautifully. Smooth and consistent. ^5 on this.

@cutehunk04 - you didn't provide the entire filename. You're missing the extension.

Yes the mechanism does exist, and it's actually working quite well (compare to other smartphones). However it doesn't mean your concept is redundant, because I always want to customize the backlight...

Re: Proper vsync and reduction of tearing

Yes, it is. However, if you get the fix the tearing in Xorg, we could very probably fix 3D tearing. What is needed for that is mostly open.

Re: xserver-xorg-video-omap3 driver support

Caused by lack of vsync. This exists in MeeGo 3d drivers (kernel + userspace), but is really bloody hard to backport to 2.6.28.

Re: xserver-xorg-video-omap3 driver support

Maemo's "fbdev" is actually == fbdev + sgx extensions, which is better than -omap3.

We call it fbdev-sgx in MeeGo as to not conflict with existing -fbdev for other systems
