There are more reasons, not just HW upgrade. If you are "normal user", you probably dont want that. However if you are geek, you will probably prefer this instead of Jolla or any Android phone.

It will use original N900 touchscreen and display. You won't notice any difference before you power it up. And even after powering it up you should hardly be able to tell a difference between N900...

maybe i'm too optimistic to think about it. why not we collect our money and pay nokia to make another n900 but with newer hardware like 1Ghz cpu and 1Gb ram? after nokia released n9 i still feel it...

Maemo's power is just Debian (and a cool WM).

Maemo: no, not open enough. Tizen: unknown/too early to say how open it will be. From Amazon's PoV, they said they are not going to try to stop people from hacking the fire though.

We should add to these threads that charge.sh (follow the link in Estel's sig) should be able to act as a software workaround to the problem - not yet personally tested by me, but if it can charge...

You can also sacrifice generic micro-usb cable and short data ping on it. Or, like me, open charger, and short it's data pins - they're not used anyway, and this way You fix it to follow the specs ;)
