Re: [Announce] Mokomaze - great opensource Labirynth clone ported to N900

I think the game calibrates the accelerometer at the start, so if you have the device tilted that creates an artificial flat plane which is different to the table top. Try pausing the game and...

Re: [Help] sSudo password for maemo?

If sudo gainroot works then you don't need to use sudo before other commands, you are already root. You can test this by entering "sudo gainroot" and then "whoami". It should respond with "root".

Re: N900 chess engine strength (?)

As far as the backlight goes, installing the simple brightness applet gives a control to keep the backlight on. I found that out when sensitive motion (the game) was giving me similar problems.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] The First N900 Coding Competition! 21st May-21st July. Open to all!

Kojacker, your handling of this has been exceptional. I hope this competition can now conclude on the high-note that it deserves to.

And congratulations to all the winners as well of course.

Re: Evopedia Qt

I know this is an alpha version, but I thought I'd report a couple of issues that I found anyway.

Whilst offline, there are repeated requests to select a network while browsing articles. This can...

Re: Evopedia Qt

Just in case anyone runs into the same problems as me, put the binary into your home/user/ directory, not Mydocs, and run

chmod +x evopediaqt

to make it executable. Apparently Mydocs is a...

Re: [ANNOUNCE] The First N900 Coding Competition! 21st May-21st July. Open to all!

Just donated €22, so hopefully €20 after fees.

On another note, I had hoped to contribute something small app-wise to this competition. I made a couple of small python scripts for...

Re: Making a Hello World

Instead of using scratchbox, you could go down the python Qt route instead. See, for example this (http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=54380&highlight=fart) thread and links within.

I've been...

Re: [Testing Squad] - June 2010 - We need testers!

I'm slightly concerned that there is too much emphasis being placed on getting the queue cleared and not enough on ensuring that the testing process is rigourous.

Every person voting an app up...

Re: Poll: how to vote for themes in Extras Testing queue

I think the first question is whether the maintainer can do anything to make the themes optified or whether it is out of their control somehow (problems with the autobuilder etc.)

If they can do...

Re: [ANNOUNCE] The First N900 Coding Competition! 21st May-21st July. Open to all!

This competition is a fab idea, I wish everyone involved the best of luck with it. I'd like to chip in with £20 towards the prize fund.

I'd also like to contribute an application. I'll try and...

Getting colour output to 'ls' in xterm

For those who haven't got a clue what the title means, this is about adding colour support to the terminal command 'ls'.

The version which comes by default is part of busybox and has been compiled...

Re: GPS on N900 without connecting to Internet?

I have worked this out from using my phone abroad. Ovi Maps, after starting, would try and get a GPS fix for a couple of minutes and then give up leaving me with no GPS fix.

GPS Jinni on the other...

Re: GPS on N900 without connecting to Internet?

Ovi Maps gives up trying to get a GPS fix after a few minutes and often fails without network positioning.

GPS Jinni doesn't give up, so you can leave it running until it gets a fix (it might take...

Re: Gimmicks you might have missed on the N900

When you touch the screen in multiple places i think it just gets interpreted as a single contact, the location of which depends on where your fingertips are and how much pressure they exert.

The...

I don't think so, just tricks it into thinking you've swiped across the desktop very quickly.

Re: Gimmicks you might have missed on the N900

ctrl backspace to bring up the task switcher is nice.

ctrl shift x to bring up a terminal on the other hand is insanely awkward. Try it.
