Well I had the UK PR1.2 running. I didn't get the update, so I flashed the N900 with the Global PR1.3 firmware.
This might be a bad idea if you have loads of apps installed and stuff, as they will...

Fair point about fewer bugs. I believe since Maemo isn't Nokia's main OS they sort of push it aside.
I find myself looking at the N900 as a testing device for new features but it doesn't bring any...

I have now come to the conclusion that the N900 is more-or-less a testing device for Nokia and other big organisations.
For instance, Adobe used the N900 to show Flash 10.10 running on a mobile...
