so many N9s faced same issue - suddenly faced SIM error without any real reason. Unable to flash cmt.
Similar issues I have read about N900.

Can any expert from Nokia MeeGo team can help here?...

This is not issue of secure erase but the way nokia account works.
It is same with other nokia phones, symbian and even some Ashas.

download memailsettings app from nokia store.
open it and enable force EAS version, select version as 2.5

And do not use s.outlook.com as server
try to login on hotmail on pc and check address....

I understand your point for Free, Open platform but that does not make 501 bad for users. "I" feel it is good that N9's , Swipe UI's legacy is remains. Who knows future?

Fully agree with you, 501 is good value for money at that price point. Keeps on N9's legacy for swipe, UI, icons,usability.
We should not trash it because it doesn't have Qt or MeeGo.

I also faced this issue and finally sent my N9 to service center.
But you can try to download fw files for product code which is mentioned at back of SIM card tray.
