Re: Please explain Notes app

If you go into the Notes app settings, it gives you the choice between 'Plain text' or 'Formatted text'. It boggles that you didn't find that.

Re: Technology Preview: MADDE

Hi,

there is an updated version of MADDE available for download. The biggest changes are a new toolchain, which matches the one in the Maemo5 SDK and the use of PR1.1 as target. Other changes are:...

OK, I've got something working with Snow Leopard and PR1.1. You can find it at http://www.smithfamily.org.uk/~dgs/N900iSync/

Please heed the warnings, back up EVERYTHING before you even think of...

Re: Maemo 6 loosing source compatibility with plain Qt, and Symbian^4

But isn't that precisely the concern of this thread: birth of an environment, where you can't (compile and) run certain Qt apps on Maemo or Symbian or PC, not because they aren't suitable for the...

Re: Maemo 6 loosing source compatibility with plain Qt, and Symbian^4

OK, I lost two goes at replying to this to a dodgy network connection on the train last night, so this might be a bit shorter than it should have been.

I said I would say nothing more until we had...

Re: Maemo 6 loosing source compatibility with plain Qt, and Symbian^4

I just want to point out, that unless you're running a professionally managed software project with developers and testers and test devices for all branches of that #ifdef tree (hopefully just two,...

Re: Maemo 6 loosing source compatibility with plain Qt, and Symbian^4

And this was the mistake that was made back in 2005 with Hildon. I'm sure it was the "right" decision given the constraints and expectations at the time, but duplicating an API...

Re: Maemo 6 loosing source compatibility with plain Qt, and Symbian^4

For some time already I wanted to join this discussion in a productive manner. But as this is quite a complex subject I was unsure where to start. So I start with a couple of observations and...

Re: Maemo 6 loosing source compatibility with plain Qt, and Symbian^4

By SDK I also mean an environment where you can see that code in action, both providing the UI under discussion and the API to play with.

Discussion around source code only is possible but it...

Re: Maemo 6 loosing source compatibility with plain Qt, and Symbian^4

Hi,

Thanks for the lengthy response. I don't see this situation as apocalyptic and I'm really glad that both platforms are in open source so we can start doing something about this rather than...

Re: Maemo 6 loosing source compatibility with plain Qt, and Symbian^4

The fear is that at the point we have SDKs and platform releases, the ship has already sailed, and IF there is an 'oops' we will be discussing damage control at best (case in point: the /opt story)...

Re: Maemo 6 loosing source compatibility with plain Qt, and Symbian^4

Hi,

I'll start by saying I work for the Symbian Foundation but these are my own opinions, not those of my employer. I'll also add that I'm a big Maemo fan too - I've had an N800 for ages, and my...

Re: Maemo 6 loosing source compatibility with plain Qt, and Symbian^4

Exactly. When I code I code on the desktop, or the laptop, or anywhere, and not necessarily where I have a scratchbox w/emulator available. I want to be able to do that with the generic QT API on...

Re: Maemo 6 loosing source compatibility with plain Qt, and Symbian^4

Well the infection seems to be spreading. I think Qt lost it . In this article http://labs.trolltech.com/blogs/2009/12/01/qt-for-maemo-5-next-iteration/ they are saying new classes got in the QT...

I'm not talking about word processors here. I'm talking about applications (typically) oriented towards phone usage. Smaller games like (to pick a simple example), Solitaire.

Likewise, it goes...

I'm pretty pleased overall. I do have some spots on my LCD so I'm gonna have to swap the device, not a big deal.

Software-wise, the media player is definitely on the funky side. Definitely usable,...

Re: PyQt @QtCore.pyqtSlot decorator not working

AFAIK pyqtSlot needs PyQt 4.5+ but the one in the repos is 4.4. Do not despair, however, a new version (4.6) is already on the way and should be in the repositories shortly.

Re: Using Python and Qt on Maemo 5 - help needed

OK, in that case use X86 PyQt from extras-devel under ESBOX (just apt-get python2.5-qt4-gui and that's it, no special setup needed) until you get a device and can get rid of scratchbox altogether. It...
