One of the Maemo Technical Speakers at Nokia World who was demonstrating how to package QT apps stated that new QT 4.7 would be included in the Next Firmware update to the N900 which would be coming...

I've not had any problems installing MyPaint on my N800 pre or post Diablo, downloading from http://nokiaaddict.com/2008/04/08/n800-mypaint/
The only Python2.5 package I have installed on the N800...

I use imap gmail using modest which gives a blue flashing d-pad and short detail of the message every time there is a new email, only draw back is min 5mins checking.

I've got a N95 8GB and been using WalkingHotSpot to connect my N800 & Laptop, WalkingHotSpot allows you to connect 5 seperate devices to the mobile phone via wifi.
