Re: Video call with N810

Video call works with the built-in software on the N810 using google talk... I gave a N810 to my mother for that purpose and have been using for a few years now. The limitation is that the N810 will...

Quite frankly, I have no idea where in the wiki this information should be put. Do you?

Re: Micro SDHC for N900 - is your one good or not?

I see two problems with this list:

first, except for a few known makers (Sandisk, Transcend, Toshiba), the brand which is printed on the card says nothing about what card it is. "Cardsforcheap"...

Re: Anyone try SDXC in N800?

That question is difficult to answer.

I tried on a mac with various SDHC readers. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. When it does not work, the mac complains that the file system is damaged...

Re: Gimmicks you might have missed on the N900

In the camera application, the top rocker zooms in and out.

Re: Counterfeit BL-5J batteries

The fake hologram is actually almost identical to the original. On the picture, they look different because they are not lit from the same angle.

Re: Counterfeit BL-5J batteries

That would worry me as well. This is the reason why I did not buy third party batteries (that and the original appeared to be only marginally more expensive): they only appear to be 1000 mAh and not...

Re: Counterfeit BL-5J batteries

Li-ion is indeed dangerous, but I do not think that third-party batteries are built without the necessary safety circuits.

This is actually the most important problem with counterfeit batteries....

Re: Counterfeit BL-5J batteries

What part of the sentence "I have no problem with 3rd-party batteries, but I have a problem with them masquerading the originals." didn't you understand? What part of the word "illegal" don't you...

Counterfeit BL-5J batteries, how to recognize them.

I ordered 2 "original Nokia" BL-5J batteries from an Amazon.de seller last week and found out that they are counterfeit. I will send them back and the seller promised to reimburse me. I don't accuse...

It's too dark!

It's not exactly a matter of design or taste, but it seems that "dark" themes and graphics are quite fashionable for smartphones. For example, the default themes coming with the N900 are generally...

Re: Mute screen taps?

Well... I tried to edit the profile -> touch screen sounds, but it still clicked. Settings -> Display -> Touch Screen Vibration did the trick, many thanks!

For the life of me, I would never have...

A big security flaw (mozilla, maybe more)

How do you reset the N900? I mean really reset everything? Seems simple? Maybe not.

I just bought a second-hand N900. Since it did not have the latest maemo release, I just flashed it. Then I...

Re: [Under consideration] constellation-follow your star

Easy.

Have an initialization process: the soft shows you first a bright star or object (the moon...), you point it to the object and press a button to initialize. Just as it is done on...

That has not been true in my experience. Really. I would suggest that you check again.

I'll answer to some of your comments below.

The iPods do just that. The only limitations are due...

I was away for a week and browsing this forum on the tablet is such a chore that I did not do it (yes, I know that you can change the style of the forum). Maybe there is some knowledge to be gained...

No, I'm not. You should really have a look over the fence. It is obvious that you haven't.

Re: Internet Tablet School closing down

I haven't used the Tablet school (I started with the 770 before it existed), but it is nice that it existed. A big thanks to you.

And about the controversy, I opened a thread here....

Re: Maemo 5: HSPA is good for location based services

Fair enough. I have great respect for the people who gave us projects like Linux, Wikipedia, etc... I even try to contribute when I can. Even more: I think it is the only model that will protect us...

Re: Maemo 5: HSPA is good for location based services

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see why people are excited about location-based services.

Let me recap what my experiences have been:

-GPS maps are the most obvious location based service. We...

Re: Dr. Ari Jaaksi on Maemo 5

Amen.

This being said, the N800/N810 is bloody good hardware. Maybe we should concentrate on making what we have really useful. It would not take that much effort to polish the present software to...

OK. I have been thinking about our last discussions here, and there is something strange about it. They change focus.

At first, the N900 was going to take the world by storm because it would allow...

Re: Dr. Ari Jaaksi on Maemo 5

Very good point. In short: Apple sells you a unix iPhone but keeps the root password. To me this is unacceptable, and the main reason why I have a N810. For the same reason, I refuse to buy branded...

If you think that google is spending vasts amount of money to hand out a free platform, you are more naive than I thought possible for an adult.
