If you were prepared to use Linux there would probably be more scope to experiment. Although this resource installs Sailfish I don't know whether device would boot after installing open mode or not,...

It won't charge from mains charger until you reach critical level 11% using flasher method. but if you don't exit process at that stage it starts to flash image.

There have been reported problems...
