Nokia and the software/hardware antagonism

John Gruber has written a blog post about Nokia and its tradition of being a hardware company first and foremost. I think he's dead-on:

It's obvious...

Re: A1 - Mobilkom Austria: N900 for €299,-

Looks like it's available now from A1.net - at least you can order it from the online shop. Actually, the deal looks much better than benny1967 assumed. So you can get the device for €299 with a 24...

Re: WebKit engine for default browser

Nope, but I'm planning to reimplement that for the next release. (Right, I'm planning a next release... Bundyo's recent libwebkit builds are working pretty well for me, so I guess it's time to...

Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard

I am listening. I'm using my own svn41128 build (http://henso.com/files/libwebkit/). So far no gmail crashes for me, neither in default mode nor in html mode. I do get occasional crashes, but they...

Re: Tear 0.3 - Simple WebKit browser, now with Dashboard

Oops, and I messed that up again in my second patch yesterday, so I just put out a third one (http://www.henso.com/files/libwebkit/). The good news is I got a N810 today from a friend, so I'll look...

Re: WebKit engine for default browser

I uploaded a new version of libwebkit (http://www.henso.com/files/libwebkit/). This one should allow multiline editing for textareas and fix a bug with copy/paste. The binary package also has SVG...

Re: WebKit engine for default browser

sb2 dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -d -b

As bundyo said, webkit won't build with scratchbox 1, at least not without workarounds. When I tried compiling with the ordinary Maemo SDK, the resulting...

Re: WebKit engine for default browser

We should really get that code (and patches) into some SVN repository somewhere.

Re: WebKit engine for default browser

Good news: I think I fixed both the stop button crashes in webkit-eal and most of the on-screen keyboard issues with libwebkit, including copy-paste and editing existing text with the full screen...

Re: WebKit engine for default browser

I figured out the reason for the wrong text in the full screen keyboard. It's because you have to bind a function to the GtkIMContext retrieve-surrounding...

Python bindings for WebKit

I just got pywebkitgtk (http://code.google.com/p/pywebkitgtk/), the Python bindings for WebkitGTK, running on my tablet. As you can guess I built it against Bundyo's webkit package, so if you have...

Re: Forum reorg pointing to talk.maemo.org

I like this approach. The Official/3rd-party devide feels like application ghettos to me. No reason Nokia Maps can't be discussed next to Maemo Mapper, and the built-in browser next to Tear.

Re: WebKit engine for default browser

It's similar to Tear, although less stable, and it relies on the same libraries. I recommend you try out Tear (http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26475), and if you like it...

Re: Maemo 5 Alpha SDK released

I found a workaround (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/252094/comments/4): Add the following line to the "Device" section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

Option...
