Re: delay timer, smart shutter, smart focus suggestions

Even if he really was just as stupid as you depicted him (probably not true by a long shot), it's still (at least) as stupid and small-minded on your part as you accuse others of being to take the...

Re: [updated] NITdroid 0.0.8 HOWTO Install *assuming you've used autoinstaller*

I've managed to install everything perfectly. Got five signal bars, everything was beautiful.

Until I set up my APN. The moment I did that my signal bars were gone and I got the no-signal sign...

I did

mkfs.ext3 /dev/mmcblk1p2
mkdir /and
mount /dev/mmcblk1p2 /and
bunzip2 /path/to/your/.bz2/file

This last one makes the image file become a .tar. Then I did

It's not live, since I got it from the very beginning (which is great!).

But thanks for the heads-up!

Re: Samsung Galaxy Tab Teaser Video

I think that any if of these tablets have a keyboard dock that would allow me to use landscape or a case that works as a stand, I honestly think I could do away with a laptop for less hardcore...

Re: I'm about to throw my N900 because of hildon-thumbnailerd

let's face it, the tone may be out of line but he kinda has a point.

Nokia has been apologizing about modest since time immemorial and the implementation is still always a little too strong on the...

Re: [Event] 2nd mobile freidae berlin (2010-08-27): speech schedule and highligts

I did some cosmetics work on the English translation. It's on the .html file attached.

Just a question, why is the name of the event not in bold? Sounds a bit strange =)

EDIT: sorry for not...

Re: [Event] 2nd mobile freidae berlin (2010-08-27): speech schedule and highligts

There are a few problems with the English translation on the link you posted.

Are you responsible for that text? Would you like some proofreading of the English version?

Nothing big, just some...

Re: N900 video walkthrough in italian

There you go. Double-tap, nipple twiggle/fiddle/cripple, zoom buttons. Whatever works. Three different ways to zoom, I'm sure we can learn to use our instincts to know which one will work on any...

Re: Now it's official: Maemo 5 and the N900 launch!

I wouldn't bet on 'not much' here. Regarding the target demographic you mentioned, Texrat, wouldn't that basically (also) be a similar market to that of those who purchased an iphone? Not necessarily...

Re: Now it's official: Maemo 5 and the N900 launch!

Yeap! That will be our wonderful "tax on imported goods": 60% on most purchases nowadays if I'm not mistaken, and certainly the reason your friend asked for a laptop. If the ppl at customs had...

As an "engaged user" (whatever that means), I would say that I really like the whole atmosphere of the forum, even though I'm not a developer / packager / programmer / anything of the sort. It gives...

Re: Now it's official: Maemo 5 and the N900 launch!

It depends on the country too.

In Brazil for example (not that I have any hope of the N900 being here any soon), most people will buy a smartphone like this on contract, especially because the...

Re: Things i really don't like ...

This is how I think of it too, but I think that is a use case, isn't it?

As a user of a small pocketable computer you have very specific needs that some users won't. And yet you persist as being a...

Re: Things i really don't like ...

Er... why? Maybe I'm missing something, but we are here discussing SOME user cases the next tablet / OS should focus on. Nobody is restricting usability scenarios to those cases. (Right?)

But I do...

Re: HELP!!! Newbie trying to boot from flash card... wrecked something?

Yes, but only defining /dev/mmcblk0p3 as swap
/dev/mmcblk0p3:45001,, should be
/dev/mmcblk0p3:45001,,82

To format the partition as swap, just run (in terminal as root)
mkswap /dev/mmcblk0p3
To...

Re: HELP!!! Newbie trying to boot from flash card... wrecked something?

No need to undo it if you planned on keeping personal files in it. mkdosfs is pretty much the same as a DOS format c:, it just leaves you with an empty fat partition.

But I dunno exactly what you...

Re: HELP!!! Newbie trying to boot from flash card... wrecked something?

Of course ;)

I don't putting it in cylinders, so when I run sfdisk I run it like this:

sfdisk /dev/mmcblk0 -uM

That way you can inform it in Megabytes, not cylinders. Just remember that...

Re: HELP!!! Newbie trying to boot from flash card... wrecked something?

More than enough, actually. The biggest apps for Maemo are games like Beneath A Steel Sky, and that takes like 75mb. I got 750mb for mine and still got half of it free. I guess that if I installed...
