Yes. And it may go ALL WRONG and there is no simple way to repair the tracker database. See famous "merge bug" and all glitches like that.

Lack of crypto support everywhere is what worries me as...

Well, I did not see any efforts that count like "actually try to sell".
And niche position is just ok. That's another management problem: if you are a "phone company" you inevitably compare niche...

Lumiaman, I won't blame creators of n900 and n9 for a "failure".
Given lack of marketing support (actually more like a sabotage) both had more than amazing success, despite all software glitches...

Works really smoothly with Google (unlike Fremantle version). Still occasional random merged contact "explosions" and duplicates do happen. If it is a bug on the google side, it would be nice to have...

Ah, thanks! National keyboard layouts are supported by maemo and switched with Ctrl-Space (say, you may choose English or Russian letters). But it does not work in easydebian applications.
