Re: Using the n900 in 2012

Thank you VERY much reinob! As I (sort of) said, I'm rather familiar with the "time bomb" you speak of--only the "time" for me was pretty much the time to first reboot after install! :(

Re: Using the n900 in 2012

I have a question for you guys now: I tried installing Kernel Power 50/51 and CSSU_Thumb and got massive instability--am I to assume they're incompatible? I really want to have KP 51 because of the...

Re: Using the n900 in 2012

Let me go down these one by one:

Firmware: pr 1.3 is latest; 1.3.1 just removed one of the compromised registrar certs. Once you load the Community SSU, though, it's like going pr 1.4! :) Note...

Re: Socially Disruptive Mobile Phone Technology for 2012

4n77r4xX: No such thing can exist--if you radiate a signal, you can be tracked with it. Period. Even without GPS your signal can still be triangulated, especially within a city with small cells. ...

Angry Re: What do people think of the Sisvel Patent sale?

Apparently you're not the one that's clear--here's the press release from Sisvel themselves:

Of particular interest are these two bits, first...

Privacy, Passwords, and Encryption

I think this has been discussed before, but I want to bring it up again since I saw this tonight:

Needless...

Re: [announce] swappolube to lubricate your gui

Easy: So you can see what effects the changes have right then and there. Having to reboot between kernel tweaks is the winblows way...

Another way to say this is that Swappolube's default...

Re: mangler for n900

Hmm...you're not geeky but you bought a N900--shaaaaame!!! :P

On a more serious note: compiles for Debian (which Fremantle is based on) and Android (which is for ARM by definition), so I don't...

Re: Windows 8 on ARM Discuss

I just skimmed through the 1st and 4th page of this, but it looks like none of you have considered the hardware angle: ARM has built their processors for low power (highest MiPS/FLOPS per watt)...

Re: Virus on N900?

This is precisely one of the major reasons I (and I'm sure many/most others) have strongly considered (or already did) re-format the eMMC with something not M$-compatible. I haven't done it, but...

Re: Problems with N900 USB port becoming broken / loose and resulting warranty & repair issues

So I got my angled cable, and the moment I opened the envelope and looked at it I knew it wouldn't work: the damn thing is WAY TOO BIG!!! For a little 5" extension cable, this thing is built rugged...

Re: Problems with N900 USB port becoming broken / loose and resulting warranty & repair issues

Yeah, it's pretty easy to sum it up: Nokia, in their stupidity, surface-mounted the USB connector without any other physical securement. Thus, after yanking around for a while, the connector will...

Re: Usb NIC problem

Off-hand, I'd say the driver is missing from the kernel: even the power kernel doesn't have EVERYTHING compiled in it as it would eat too much memory and slow things down. If Titan or someone else...

Re: Are you with still with N900 just because you are in a contract?

I bought my N900 last month (2nd week October) and, while it doesn't quite live up to my expectations, I think that's more because my expectations were unrealistic: having never owned a smartphone...

Re: PR1.3 - OTA install?

I *STRONGLY* recommend you backup (manually if necessary) and do a firmware flash (including eMMC) instead of the OTA update. I did this and have not run into any of the major problems everyone else...

Re: Nokia N900 infos

I've had my N900 for almost 2 weeks now, and I love it, though haven't used it as much as I've wanted to. In addition to what was written above WRT apps (especially games), you should know a few...

SOLVED...at least for Slackware-13.1

After fighting for this problem for a few hours this afternoon, I successfully solved it and have both PR 1.2 and the vanilla eMMC image flashed.

During fighting with it, behavior between the N900...

Re: (noobish question)Have nokia abandoned us again?

I don't think this is a n00bish question at all, and furthermore it keeps me from having to make a new thread with a new question.

To my knowledge, this is still the ONLY "phone"-sized device made...
