Re: Audio player in 2016

I've just tried downloading the Android version from here (http://rasher.dk/rockbox/android/) and it actually works (no graphics whatsoever, but that isn't an issue as I actually prefer textual...

Re: Audio player in 2016

I had no idea it existed as player-independent software. I loved it on my Sansa clip and I've installed it on every player I've owned that supported it (mostly old iPods that were given to me by...

Audio player in 2016

I'm in need of a bluetooth-enabled audio player and my old retired N900 would fit the bill just fine. I have SomePlayer installed from the days when I was using it as my phone, but I've always hated...

Re: DebiaN900 - A set of scripts to facilitate the installation of native Debian (WIP)

Hi. I've dug my N900 back out because I'm interested in running a Pi-Hole (https://pi-hole.net) household ad-blocker on it, as per this thread...

Re: Farewell N900, farewell Maemo, and farewell to all of you beautiful people in the community

I have a hint for Blackberry: if you're gasping for breath under the attacks of your competitors, desperately need to get some users back and have managed to make a decent OS that actually stands a...

Re: Farewell N900, farewell Maemo, and farewell to all of you beautiful people in the community

Man alive, my posts are becoming quite alarmingly long. Hey, take them as a stream-of-thought almost-review of WinPhone. :P

I don't think it's fair to say you can't do things with WP8. There are...

Re: Farewell N900, farewell Maemo, and farewell to all of you beautiful people in the community

Surprisingly so. I'm actually quite amazed at how smooth and fast it is on the 520's hardware. I've used new-ish Androids with similar configurations (dualcore 512ram) and they've all felt much less...

Re: Farewell N900, farewell Maemo, and farewell to all of you beautiful people in the community

Actually, I am.

The N9 doesn't look like a tremendous improvement over the N900 (for instance it still uses a single-core A8, though the gig of RAM is actually pretty good), is hard to get ahold...

Farewell N900, farewell Maemo, and farewell to all of you beautiful people in the community

I knew this was coming, but I was hoping I could delay it long enough that someone would come up with another phone running a proper Linux OS to which I could jump, hacks and scripts at the ready,...

Re: [Announce] Yappari - A WhatsApp Client for the N900 ONLY

Hmm. You have a point. I guess what's left of the WinMo crowd just doesn't care enough about their system.

Too bad, though... there are a lot of still-functional WinMo devices out there that could...

Re: My N900 has started switching off on its own

It was its battery... and the other one I was trying it with.

I ran it from a much newer and healthier LiIon cell and it worked fine, so I built another battery for it (it's now only two thirds as...

My N900 has started switching off on its own

I've had occasional unexplained switch-offs since day one, but they would only occur very rarely - sometimes with several months between one and the other. Since yesterday, however, it's started...

Re: [Announce] Yappari - A WhatsApp client for the N900 ONLY - v0.0.27

Installed 27, registration works, I can use Whatsapp again! :D

Thanks Scorpius, I hope our donations are making all this work worth your while. :)

Re: [Announce] Pierogi - a universal infrared remote control app

I figured out the problem.

It's not a problem of range; rather, at least on my N900 it's a problem of direction. It seems my device's IR LED is very directional and I have to point it exactly at...

Re: [Announce] Pierogi - a universal infrared remote control app

Am I the only one for whom Pierogi doesn't work?

The IR LED lights up, I've confirmed with a camera, but I can't seem to do anything to TV sets. I've tried Panasonics, Philips, Toshiba and...

Re: [Announce] Yappari - A WhatsApp client for the N900 ONLY - v0.0.19

I tried the same thing with BlueStacks, Yappari simply lost the registration, re-registering made it work again.

Why? Can't he just re-register it via NitDroid?

Anyway, thought I'd mention...

Re: [Announce] Yappari - A WhatsApp client for the N900 ONLY - v0.0.18

After many tries this afternoon it connected, but wouldn't send messages; after trying again it hasn't connected at all. It says connection failed, locks up on "connecting" or presents me the...

Re: How tracker works

I had problems with the tracker hogging the CPU, so I used tracker-cfg to disable everything I could see. I'm assuming this has disabled the tracker entirely, as I no longer get insane CPU activity...

Re: Homemade XXL battery, 6000/7000mAh

That's a good idea.
Heh, I can visualize me going through the airport with my own security escort :P

Re: Homemade XXL battery, 6000/7000mAh

As I said, probably not; Chinese batteries are usually overrated, with very few exceptions. I've used grey Trustfires before, and I've found them to be anywhere from 2 to 2.3Ah (that is, 2000 to...

Re: Homemade XXL battery, 6000/7000mAh

Heh, I avoided using really strong glue because I want to be able to remove the modification and use a traditional battery if I ever have to take it on a plane. Somehow I don't think they'd let me...

Homemade XXL battery, 6000/7000mAh

My N900 was sold to me with a tired battery that barely made it to one day of very mild usage. Clearly this was unacceptable, so I researched aftermarket batteries - coming to the conclusion that...

Re: A novel idea to fix the USB port

Not entirely correct.
First up, the CC/CV (constant current / constant voltage) charging process switches to CV somewhere at 80% capacity, not 50% --edit-- I got doubtful about this and I'm...

Re: A novel idea to fix the USB port

Are you sure the multimeter isn't adding resistance? Best way to measure this would be to gut a USB cable, short the data pins, connect the power ones to a laboratory power supply set to 5V and see...

Re: A novel idea to fix the USB port

From what I've seen, the fact that full-size ports aren't super-snug is a big plus. If everything is completely snug every little movement of the plug gets transmitted to the socket; if it's floating...
