An idea: how about writing an application that makes .desktop files for all of the contacts you've favourited and places them in the application launcher folder?

It could even update the icon...

QML applications can recognize when they're in the minimized (thumbnail) state and can adjust the information they display accordingly.

So far I've seen very few apps take advantage of this, but...

yes, the accelerometer can detect taps and even double taps, but need configuration for the 2 (3) parameters tap direction, tap strength (threshold), (and double tap time distance). The kernel driver...

That's true, though the swipe is from up to bottom -- the other swipe just puts application into a recents view.
