Bedside Alarm Clock

I have been trying to use my n900 as a bedside alarm clock, and wanted to have a clock displayed all night. There seems to be a couple of options I've found, but none are quite right.

Bedside,...

Re: Virus?

Since these phones are running essentially what is Linux, any techniques malicious people may use on Linux can be used on your phone too. Trojans, rootkits both userland and kernel, etc...

Re: [Announcement] Fundraiser for "Maemo" Trademark registration

That isn't quite true. Atari for instance, is a currently owned trademark, and that company *did* go after several sites and other IP that they own and ask them to be shutdown or renamed.

Re: Kali Linux 1.1.0a armhf for Nokia N900 (working WiFi injection)

It's possible to run Kali from chroot like the Easy Debian setup, and you should have access to all the underlying hardware in this way. It will be slower of course, and there are a few other small...

Re: big news regarding Fremantle MCE

Somewhere in this thread are the binaries I'm running, and instructions on where to copy them. Keep in mind the copy and paste issue that some people had while copying the INI file stuff though...

Re: big news regarding Fremantle MCE

I never did do anything with that code to get it into the official source... I think I posted my binaries though?

I'm still using it, no problems that I've been able to see, and always a colorful...

Re: [$ Paid request] Porting Love2D to maemo

Looks like this requires SDL2 which, I believe, is a blocker at the moment.

Here's the compiled test program. Shows "vulnerable" for the n900 on latest CSSU-thumb.

Re: [RFC] On the roles of Maemo Council and Maemo e.V.

Yes, I understand that is probably the most likely scenario.

I imagine it would go down like this:

Council says, "no we cannot do that, since it's illegal and it puts the MCev in jeopardy",...

Re: [RFC] On the roles of Maemo Council and Maemo e.V.

I think this is being over complicated...

In my point of view, it's quite simple:

1. Passive members, ie. those that do not want to join the MCev for whatever reason, can continue to enjoy the...

Re: [Announce] TuxPaint-0.9.22 for N900

Nice! This also ties two of my hobbies together, as Bill is a well-known figure in the Atari 8-bit computer scene too. :)

Re: N900, CSSU and OpenSSL

I still think that just compiling the latest version, having someone who has the ability packaging it up in CSSU dev/testing and having some people test it out is easier (and better) than having...

Re: N900, CSSU and OpenSSL

Is there really any reason not to just run the current version? I've been running 0.9.8za on my device for months with no ill effects. Are there "special patches" that were created just for the...

Re: Tor Status Area Applet

It does this for me too. On the latest thumb CSSU. I stopped using it and restored an old version of my status applet config file.

Probably this app should be considered broken I guess.

Re: [Announce] TrueCrypt available in extras-testing [+transparently MASS-STORAGE'ing encrypted volumes for desktops]

Estel, none of that actually stops true crypt however. If they have the sort of power you think they do, they could have seized the whole infrastructure (instead of killing the devs, although that's...

Re: [RFC] On the roles of Maemo Council and Maemo e.V.

You can also have the MCev board delegate these tasks to anyone else (assuming that it is not a task that needs to be done by a director by law). It could very well work this way:

1. GA elects...

Re: [Announce] TrueCrypt available in extras-testing [+transparently MASS-STORAGE'ing encrypted volumes for desktops]

Or it could be exactly what the developers said: they were getting bored with it, and with encryption freely available on Windows and Linux, they saw no great need for their software anymore.

Re: [RFC] On the roles of Maemo Council and Maemo e.V.

Just one point, the E.V. is not a corporation, it's an "association". Think of a hobby club where the membership elects people to run the club.

In a corporation the employees can't tell the BoD...

Re: [RFC] On the roles of Maemo Council and Maemo e.V.

Wait a second. Why? Why are we trying to limit the power of the "GA", which is actually the Maemo community? GA=maemo community.

Is there any need for this? Many other organizations work...

Re: [RFC] On the roles of Maemo Council and Maemo e.V.

Re: Shellshock? Maemo?

Probably the only exploit vector you would worry about would be DHCP. The other vectors are unlikely to affect your n900, such as cgi scripts, restricted ssh shells, etc...

Most of you are...
