Maybe! But if the n9 had wireless charging then it makes sense that the usb should be covered. I can imagine Nokia had this in mind with the n9 design language but wireless charging wasn't up to...

I only get the problem of orienation locking to landscape if I swipe to close the app whilst the movie is playing. Otherwise the orientation is opens up as I've previously set it i.e. automatic.
