Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing

I certainly don't think I contributed enough to call it mine, but it is fine by me to rename it. I haven't seen any posts about problems or questions about the image. I can only assume it is working...

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing

@t-b:
In case you haven't personalized your updated image with too much sensible data, it might be a good idea to upload it somewhere.

You may also want to check if glibc is outdated and...

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing

Had an unrecoverable crash on my phone a few months ago and did not back up my data so lost everything including my Easy Debian install. Had to read through the thread again to search for the method...

Re: Alternative history: What if Jolla never existed?

It was biting me for a long time too. What is so special to me with N900?
When I realized it, I summed it up (http://abadcafe.pl/post/122926111638/jolla-phone-post-mortem) as:

Re: The Future of Jolla's Tablet

...and I was one of the last optimists who pay for imaginary tablet.
But, I'm angry, because that amount is almost half of My salary.
And I'm disappointed because SFOS is so good I cannot change...

Re: Alternative history: What if Jolla never existed?

It's been able to do that for some time but iirc Nokia Multiscanner on Symbian did it back in 2008/9. Google Translate does it a whole lot quicker and more accurately but that's just better hardware...

Re: Alternative history: What if Jolla never existed?

I am not able to reflect on "What if Jolla never existed" as i have not been here long enough and just came to "make that n900 usable again" and jumped on the Boat just for non google android / Alien...

Re: Alternative history: What if Jolla never existed?

I found that very interesting.

This is something that webOS actually handled more or less (barring lots of bugs), e.g. a browser window opened by a program would stack on top of that program,...

Re: Alternative history: What if Jolla never existed?

So basically like the Activity concept in KDE (https://userbase.kde.org/Plasma#Activities) ?

While, at least from my experience, it does not really work on desktop it could make quite a lot of...

Re: Alternative history: What if Jolla never existed?

Let me try to describe something in my mind for quite some time.

The mobile phone only has one purpose : to help its owner in doing some tasks. Its goal is not to provide access to some ecosystem....

Re: Alternative history: What if Jolla never existed?

While that actually resembles an "hybrid" laptop more than a dockable phone,
i am generally against anything that is "big-slot-in dockable" like those early Asus phones. Several reasons:

Re: Alternative history: What if Jolla never existed?

As someone who at some point predicted the N900 community would die away as much as the previous NITs communities did, I've been surprised to have been proved completely wrong. I hereby admit that.

I guess I should admit that at some point between the N9 and the early Jolla days I gave up on the "phone as mobile computer" thing and...

What does this even mean? Even Apple has faltered in recent (enough) history. This is perhaps as inflammatory of a response as I'd ever expect from a scorned lover. Simply stated, it could have...

Re: Alternative history: What if Jolla never existed?

I think it's too late to do a new OS if you were starting in 2015, or at least, how you would consider a traditional OS of hardware adaptation, middleware, linux kernel, c libraries and stuff. What's...
