Re: [Council] Community Council September election

The deadline is approaching and so far only one candidate has declared.

This is of course an uncertain time for Maemo so I understand why many would be reluctant to bother. However, there's still...

Re: New n9 specs from the people with the prototype

Yes it has, judging by the Qt bug (http://bugreports.qt.nokia.com/browse/QTMOBILITY-384?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels%3Aall-tabpanel) that have been raised against the QCompass...

Re: [Council] Community Council September election

I think I agree, but there might not be much of a community apart from an enthusiasts club for increasingly out-of-date and underpowered hardware (as an ex-Acorn and ex-Psion user, I know these types...

Re: [Council] Community Council September election

Hmmm. The last few times I've tried to explain my position there I got flamed... :p

But I'll give it a shot.

I was taken to task for saying this would be an important term when I last ran and...

Re: [Council] Community Council September election

IMHO, and I'll say this if I run again, we're still not clear how viable MeeGo-Harmattan HE will be as a day-to-day OS for the N900. This is the main determinant factor in the future of maemo.org.

Re: Would you miss the Council if it was gone?

Some of the initial posts in this thread make me wonder how the same people would reply if asked the questions:

Would you miss the Bugmaster, if he was gone?
Would you miss the Webmaster, if...

Re: Would you miss the Council if it was gone?

Ok, won't ignore it completely.

Texrat.. this is my one comment:

Look, there you are *sticks out an e-finger and pokes you*, see? I see you, you see me.. you TALK to me..

It's MUCH easier...

Re: Would you miss the Council if it was gone?

Right.

We're to blame for Nokia's inaction.

I'm astounded at the comments of some (not silvermountain's-- I've come to expect his baseless, pointless bashing).

You folks can slam us all...

Re: Samsung Captivate - Samsung is OPEN-SOURCING their drivers and other code!

Not sure--last thing I got was that they opened up some more stuff, apparently, and STSKeeps was looking for source code that might make it handy to port MeeGo over onto the hardware but didn't hear...

Re: What is the future for the n900 from now? meego or no updates or nothing?

For all its faults, and I will grant every one of them, Nokia still comes closest to providing a true, viable handheld computing experience. That in fact is likely one of the problems for the...

Re: asus eee pc linux ??????????????????????

No, many users replaced that version of Linux with other versions of Linux that are close to what is running on the N900 now.

What you suggest could be done, but no one thinks it would be worth...

Re: HTC Glacier - dual processors!

No, don't fall for Qualcomm's abuse of the megahertz myth. They're pulling a Pentium 4 with their A8 stuff.

TI, most likely.

Re: HTC Glacier - dual processors!

OMAP4 has been announced in February 2009, with silicon available from February 2010 and volume production in late 2010.

EDIT: Though it might be counterintuitive, dual core processors might...

Talking Re: A broke USB port, a peek at the competition and now back to Nokia

@texrat: ACK. I'm pondering three approaches: 1) Cyanoacrylat. 2)special adapter that has extremely short handle end on micro-USB plug and this way no lever to apply bending force to the receptacle....

Re: A broke USB port, a peek at the competition and now back to Nokia

The defect was in using a surface mount component, especially one with no bracing whatsoever.

Properly done, even a hard yank shouldn't pull the connector free.
