Re: And where is Quim Gil?

Don't talk **** about Quim. That guy is probably more broken up about all this than any of us could ever be. He deserves nothing but our sympathy and thanks for everything he's done for us....

Re: [Council] State of Maemo, Q32010.2

Going back to the comment about the Media Player and Calendar. Both could certainly be replaced, but the question is really whether it's worth investing the time and effort to do this as they will...

Re: Complaints about Nokia, its practices, and its products in the community forums

While this is quite understandable, and by no means can we blame you personally for it, it leaves the community talking to the same wall to which we've been speaking for years.

Discussions outside...

Re: SIO2 Interactive spamming votes to get his/her applications to Extras

Here lies one of the biggest difference between open-community versus commercial entity...

Re: Maemo + Moblin = MeeGo

Re: Fedora based MeeGo = NoGo!

That you ndon't have much idea about what you are talking about.
RPM is just a packaging system, as mature as dpkg is. It has nothing to do with Fedora, since it was just RedHat in 1996.
deb and...

Re: Maemo + Moblin = MeeGo

Exactly. In the 10 years I've used linux I've run rpm-based distros almost all the time with great success. Using CentOS 5.4 now which has flawlessly upgraded itself since I installed it as 5.1. ...

Re: Maemo + Moblin = MeeGo

RPM? Debian?

OpenWRT doesn't use either. And they're on their 2nd version of a distribution system.

Don't let the Meta code be too important. Open is what matters.

Re: Maemo + Moblin = MeeGo

This hasn't been true for many years now. Using a server-based repository along with yum, apt4rpm, etc. RPMs have no more dependency issue than .debs. The only "issue" as such is that they're far...

Cool Re: Maemo + Moblin = MeeGo

Not really. It works pretty much in the same way as .deb, with YUM repositories doing the same job as APT repositories.

The main difference is that it's slightly easier to build a .rpm package...

Re: Maemo + Moblin = MeeGo

Please let's not start yet another package format religious war. Both have their pros and cons, and I'm happy they picked (either) one, certainly better than allowing both and making all developers...

Re: Maemo + Moblin = MeeGo

The MeeGo API is based on Qt and Web Runtime (which sits on top of QtWebKit, which sits on top of Qt). This was/is exactly the API plan for Harmattan (no wonder since MeeGo is a result of merging...

Re: Maemo 6 / Harmattan on N900?

By "indicators" you mean, of course, the official announcement of support in Harmattan.

As for the quote from BCN, well, it's in Spanish and, no, I don't have a source handy but I was sitting next...

I beg to differ. I'm sorry, but this point on the N900 advertising page was a large reason for my initial interest and is still inaccurate. It's false advertising....

Re: Has anyone from the Maemo team actually responded to any bugs?

Nokia could absolutely not afford to release Maemo 5 late. With Symbian ^3 and ^4 far ahead yet, they needed something this year to keep their "street credibility" as being a top player, and that was...
