Two things:

1) You didn't root your device... devel-su with password rootme is default for all n9s... Its called root not in Android terms but in GNU Linux terms whereby root gives you escalated...

No. The birthdays are still in the contacts, it's just the calendar not showing them. Now they show twice randomly, i.e. some contacts birthday appear twice on a day and some don't.

ohwell apparantly you can get bleeding effect on some devices more easily than others. With testing pattern I can see bleeding in my too, but not in normal use. Of course if you see it on normal use...

You have to move message in question to the Drafts folder, then find it there and start editing it. Pretty complicated and unconvenient, but does the trick.
