IMO, 0.0.9 is much faster and smoother than gingerbread...I tried Gingerbread but it not much smoother than 0.0.9. If you doubt, try it out ;)
I have a query here...installing Nitdroid in eMMC much...

Disable WIFI if enabled. Also try rebooting the device. I had faced the same issue before and these solutions helped me out :) Also, please re-check your APN settings ..I guess they are...

This is Vasikaran from India, Currently in Switzerland. I have bought my N900 here for only 399chf 3 months back. Lucky me, now the price has been increased...
