Yeah, that's not working for me for some odd reason.

At the very best, it might output just one letter.

Maybe I have a goosed xte file.

I thought for sure that I was using the one you gave me though.

As to that other thing you pointed out to me.

Seriously?! *lol*

I've now realized that I have a N810 and you have a N800, the N800 has no keyboard, so "xte str" can't press keys. That would explain why it doesn't work for you.

Nice!

Okay. That all makes sense now. :)

So maybe when I was being all complainy awhile back on why I couldn't get a CTRL-r to consistently work with Dialcentral, this could have been the case as well.

Any genius workarounds that you can think of Mac?

You can set /system/osso/af/keyboard-attached to true using gconftool. With it set to true, button presses should be sent unmodified (d-pad enter sends enter, instead of bringing up OSK etc. etc.). I can't remember the exact syntax for gconftool, however; all I know is that it is a boolean value. If you do try to set it from xterm, make sure you set it to false first so that you can browse the shell's history with the d-pad when you set it to true so that you can use the OSK again!

An alternative to xte would be xdotool, but using xclip to copy that long string into the clipboard may be easier

Hey stokes!

I'm not sure if your suggestion will work on my end.

I have a hacked /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/base file.

The reason for this can be found here:
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=408688&postcount=1

Just scroll down to the part *Technical Details on this hack* to better understand why my base file is altered.

For now, it seems like the easiest thing for me to do is a simple, copy and paste of that javascript into my browser.

I kinda wanted to do a few more commands with this though.

Like all I would have to do is press a hardware button to automatically download a YouTube video but I guess that's just the lazy side of me wanting silly things. :)
