how about combing that with pushing an "update", used loosely, to change package description to warn off potential victims.

Many people are also still running PR1.0 due to lack of connectivity to update to PR1.3. Does that mean we should tell people it's great to stay on PR1.0?

These "patches" did a lot of things to the system that even the author of them has said he didn't understand fully. That statement alone should give you pause. They also intentionally overclocked, and used an under-clocked mode Nokia specifically abandoned for lack of stability, without warning the user that it was doing either.

If you're using these, and not having issues, you're one of a very rare and small niche set of people that it's working for. Most who install them wind up having issues and land here, or in another thread, looking for a way to undo it. And for the most part the only answer is to reflash.

At one point I offered help in re-writing parts of the install script so that a clean uninstall could be done. Those changes were never fully adopted, and even the current version is not fully uninstalled when one purges it with apt-get.

Warning people to avoid them if they don't understand what they do or how they work is standard practice for most applications in devel or testing. For these, it's doubly so. In the end, it's your device to screw up if you want to. But I will tell you right now, if you ask for help on any thread and mention you have either of these patches your help will go to 0 instantly, since most developers don't want to spend time debugging issues with overly tweaked systems using clockings known to be buggy and cause erratic behavior.

What's not fair about a very comprehensive critical bug report?

Hello everybody ...
Long time no see woody .. hope everyone is doing fine ..

Things you should all know .. to help you decide what to do ..

--------------------
batterypatch is not stable "and never will" because it relied on my "personal tests" .. which cannot be fully true .. and probably it's now very compatible with the latest i don't know what kernel updates have been made
--------------------
retest speedpatch and it's functionality .. it's fine not harmless ..however it does modify a system file and creates a backup for it ..
uninstalls fine and it does improve the system's response and speed
At least that's what i remember ..
--------------------
i personally won't make any further updates ..

Studying architecture now .. lost my n900 ... and am in syria ..
.....

will probably not have net to post again .. Take care everyone
