When I will finish the boards for @Maemish I will want to port Pekka Kana 2 for Leste.

WHAAAT IS THAT?!? I refuse to be labeled as a chicken. Ooops. Just blew my cover and now everyone knows my name. Yes, Pekka, and if you fill out formal stuff on internet in spanish speaking world you are always labeled to be female. Never recovered from that. Not that females would be somehow not as good as men. I just am a man. Oops. Now I told that I'm a male. Anyone wanting my social security number? I can give it straight cause would probably slip it in a next clause anyways.

OFF TOPIC!!
Just curious how do you enable the beyond phone, browser, and settings repos on postmarket OS.
I ahve not even had time to SSH into the Pinephone but is it a find and add to /etc/apt/sourcesXXX or something else. I genuinely havent even dug enough to know if it is a deb or rpm system.

1) There are sources for this? ^H^H i see it's in debian/devuan
2) Screenshots look like game is made for hi-res. Can it do 800x480 or 960x540? ^H^H^H Yes it can!

Using ~175% cpu and getting 5 fps :) :) :)

Not sure what's wrong. Runs okay on the Jetson Nano with cortex a57 cpu. ..

Maybe you can figure it out!

  • I haven't seen anyone overclocking omap4430 even when it was new.
  • With 1ghz dual-A9 cores we're already a good deal faster than n900.
  • OC would get into high battery drain.

What transitions do you mean? Switching window animations? Disabling them wouldn't save much power.

3. Is swappolube a no go or is there some other easy way to tweak the performance? I have been doing it for my old laptops and searched what to do after installing linux to make it faster but have not tested those with Leste 'cause I don't know if there are some things to take into consideration with this device.

I don't recall swappolube on n900. In maemo-leste, swap can be set with standard linux tools. I don't recall ever getting into swap usage.
  • Running playstation emulator, i see 164MB used, 801MB available
  • Running chromium, google start page, i see 233MB used, 735MB available.
  • Running chromium, T.M.O homepage, i see 240MB used, 722MB available.
In addition the upstream/stock devuan Chromium browser blows firefox out of the water:
  • Responds to swipe to scroll and pinch to zoom which is amazing to me. The display updates aren't smooth though.
  • Clicking on links on T.M.O. pulls up the page in about 1 second on my slow internet.
  • Idle CPU use with T.M.O open is 0.0% ... ZERO!
Impressive!

Re: Applications Wishlist

@clort: This is a maemo Leste wishlist and not some particular device wishlist. So N900 is included with lower specs and not going away.

Overclocking has been working well with N900. Depending of the manufacture line you may have been able to overlock N900 cpu over 1000 but mine crashes at 950. 900 works though.

Swappolube is easy way to configure a lot of different behaviours of system.

Window transitions slow how device reacts.

For N900 running Leste all tweaks for better performance are welcomed.

Sorry i assumed you were running leste on droid4. They're only $20-40 btw from USA. I'd keep using original maemo on n900 due to maemo being feature-complete and boasting many more phone-centric apps.

With an OTG USB hub, I could see N900+Leste serving as a little computer with battery backup, maybe running hostAP or pihole or something.

I do not see how disabling 'transitions' will speed up your phone in any meaningful way. You can, however, get some X11 apps running considerably faster disabling hildon compositing entirely.

The 256MB of N900 was very spacious from an EPOC/Symbian perspective, and serviceable with a 2000-era lightweight linux like PuppyLinux or Alpine. But really not from the perspective of a modern linux distro..

I should go back to my playground thread and not bother you folks here. Sorry for the misunderstanding Maemish, cheers!

Re: Applications Wishlist

It would be nice to have an application for N900 that would count the charching cycles and inform the battery state and even guide through the recalibration. I have never really figured out how the battery thing goes (no need to try to explain) but if it is unavoidable the app would like warn with text and sound "after three charges you need to recalibrate the battery" and then after those "let me guide you through recalibration", "charge fully", "full. Remove charger", and then when battery is empty enough "1 minute untill your device will reboot.", and after reboot "Congratulations! Battery recalibrated!".

Maybe something was said in a wrong way but you got the point. Would it be difficult to make an app like that?

Queen Beecon Widget!!
Tried installing it by putting
Code:

sudo dpkg --add-architecture armel
and
Code:

sudo dpkg -i queen-beecon_1.3.3_armel.deb
but of course there were too many unmet dependencies.
Funny, though, that "Queen Beecon Widget" showed up in the widget menu - just without function :(.

Any ideas how to get it working?
