Windows 8 rt in n900 possible because ........
The smartphone htc hd2 are equal than n900, and this phone now are running windows 8 rt , and I think that n900 can it .
http://blog.gsmarena.com/htc-hd2-spo...ng-windows-rt/ https://twitter.com/CotullaCode/stat...78905383686146 cotulla developer. The n900 comunity is very big and I think that If htc can, n900 can do it. |
Re: Windows 8 rt in n900 possible because ........
That would surely be very cool.
Most likely not to happen. P.S I'm a very pessimistic person! |
Re: Windows 8 rt in n900 possible because ........
Unfortunately there just aren't enough developers interested in porting such thing onto the N900.. (or even the N9).
And I must say that's pretty cool seeing Windows RT on the HD2.. This phone imo is as impressive as the N900 (with the amount of porting that's done to it).. |
Re: Windows 8 rt in n900 possible because ........
pointless ...
|
Re: Windows 8 rt in n900 possible because ........
I don't think it's pointless, I mean it will at least bump up the N900 on the news sites that probably forgot all about it.. :/

Re: Windows 8 rt in n900 possible because ........
Holy ****. The HD2 does Windows RT now?
Cotulla/DFT probably hacked up the Board Support Package for current-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon Windows 8 tablets. How they keep obtaining these BSPs (see WP7 and 8 on HD2), is a mystery. Not only can they port the whole OS with all the drivers needed, the OS still runs pretty slick on "2009-era hardware". [And on topic: Unless an OMAP-based Windows RT device comes out, you're out of luck.] What does all this mean? Lumia users who are told by MS that their WP7 device can't run WP8 are just being $hafted. Big time. |
Re: Windows 8 rt in n900 possible because ........
Just port it, and i'll sell my N900 right away.
|
Re: Windows 8 rt in n900 possible because ........
Can the win-mobile 7-8 binaries, being compiled for ARM be run with Wine already available on the repos with additional libs?
|
Re: Windows 8 rt in n900 possible because ........
Good thing nobody mentioned the N9 to be ported to :D
|
Re: Windows 8 rt in n900 possible because ........
a compatibility layer would be much better!
|
Re: Windows 8 rt in n900 possible because ........
I've been interested in this for a while. Anything happening? I'd downloaded a verson of Windows 8 DE almost two years ago, but have no idea what to do (about any development, really) to get it running.
Theres almost no good forum for the idea. |
Re: Windows 8 rt in n900 possible because ........
but really, what I'm looking for is a SkyDrive link on this thing whether it runs through Windows 8, Maemo, Debian, Nemo,
|
Re: Windows 8 rt in n900 possible because ........
All are intrested but noone bothering:(
|
Re: Windows 8 rt in n900 possible because ........
seems like developers are not interested in Porting it. and by they way Nemo mobile is far better than Windows crap. and windows 8 su*ks.
|
Re: Windows 8 rt in n900 possible because ........
Why do you guys keep on saying stuff like this? That Nemo is better or if they port Win 8 RT I'll sell my N900, blah blah... N900 is a hacker device.. It's made for this kind of thing.. The more things like this the longer life wpan of this device will be... If noone works on such cool ports as this then the N900 will cease to exist (there will be no interest in the N900 anymore)... We should be encouraging such activities and not shoot it down because of fanboyism...

But... HTC HD2 have a built in Windows bootloader (N900 have a Linux one), also the CPU in the HD2 is more powerfull. I don't think you can have a good W8 experience on that low hardware (Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz runs W8 pretty rough...) also you have to think about the GPU... W8 requires some visual memory to run animations smooth... |
Re: Windows 8 rt in n900 possible because ........
We are taking about rt here @^^ or say wp:)
and i am expecting halfbaked:p |

Does this: Attachment 32452 Which is WP8 looks like the screenshot in OP's liks: http://cdn.gsmarena.com/pics/12/12/h...marena_001.jpg ? I don't think so. Also you can do some research before. W8 RT is just the Windows8 OS with ARM cpu compatibility and it's a TABLET OS not A PHONE OS. ALSO, this is how a WP8 about looks like, or this is just W8 RT as you say and I am just crazy (obviously ironic): Attachment 32453 |

I personally love Microsoft. They offer premium support and features IF YOU PAY THEM (which is obvious, because they work hard for those premium features/softwares/OS). I have Win8 Pro on my notebook, on my tablet and WP8 on my phone and I love them. They are perfect. I don't know if your Android or Meego can do this: https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...70224598_n.jpg And you know why? Because Microsoft made a well built OS that know to run best on it's designated hardware, never asking for more, just optimizing itself to fit best and not cause much problems like battery drains or OS slowdowns. So please, go take your Meego device and keep it at a safe spot, keep it away from PROGRESS. P.S. Idk why Meego OS (2011) looks and acts pretty much the same as Windows Phone (2010)... MAYBE IS JUST A COINCIDENCE NO? P.S.S. Also, why the hell are your holly Jolla devices look more like Windows Phone 8 devices? Ohh yeah, because you are the other half, the half that provide poor support and a copied OS just to please the people that won't give money to "corporations" because they are bad mmmkay? And here is my point: http://jolla.com/assets/img/slides/5/phone.png http://windowsphonenetwork.com/wp-co...C-8S-White.png Ohh yeah, if that HTC's bottom part wouldn't be white, both devices would be almost identical. I would like N900 to run Maemo (since I like that OS) and Windows 8. That would be a perfect device. |
Re: Windows 8 rt in n900 possible because ........
@TheoX: believe it or not mikecomputing's post is write. its because of MS that Nokia is going in such painfull times. And because of MS and offcourse who can forget Elop, Nokia killed their MeeGo project on which they worked for 3 years and its indeed much better than Windows Phone. Every tech website wrote positve reviews about N9 and praised MeeGo.
People wanted another MeeGo device but Elop didn't cared about it. and also check this article and you will know why microsoft/Elop killed MeeGo. And anyone remember Meltemi ? Stripped down version of MeeGo which Elop killed just 2 days before launch. All the hardworks of MeeGo team gone wasted when Elop came. Believe it or not almost everyone here at Maemo Community including me Hates Microsoft and Elop for what they did :mad:. |

When I have a problem, I don't want to hear something like "Well I had that problem too, and I tried this homemade solution" i want to hear "The fix for your problem is this, if not, our service will take care of your phone". And I got to this conclusion after using Symbian, Windows Mobile, Android, Maemo4 and 5 and Windows Phone. Except Windows Phone and APPLE (YES, APPLE) they all lack support. After all my experience with all those phones in my signature I choose Windows Phone, it's perfect, have everything WITH STOCK OS (NO OTHER APPS - so you don't need root, custom fw's or stuff like that), and iOS (but I couldn't afford one), and WHY iOS? Because it combines all the functionalities from Windows Phone and Android, in ONE, FUNCTIONAL device. Take a moment to think about it, what to you need a smartphone for, now balance problems you have with your supportless OS and let me know :). |
