DataViz - Documents to Go

It appears DataViz is making a version of "Documents to Go" for Linux:

http://www.linuxdevices.com/news/NS2388387952.html

It would be great if we could get this on the NITs.

Ah, if only it was Beyond Contacts instead, I'd be interested. I never found any use for Documents To Go.

Is this Maemo 5's first paid app?

I downloaded it but am scared to open it as I assume that will start my 30 day trial running. Can anyone tell me how well it displays the various formats? (Especlally whether it will display the animations in ppt. ;) )

You have to start sometime. ;)

Look at it this way, if you don't like it, you can stop wasting your time with it. But, if you like it, you can stop wasting your time without it.

I had this on my Palm T3 years ago and have to say it was a quality product you could edit and create native documents.

BUT! This is only a viewer, you cannot create and edit documents at all!
Mind you it at special offer of $9.95.

Don't we have gnumeric and abiword for the Maemo os anyway?

Don't know about ppt's but sheets and doc's are OK, just loaded 17mb excel file and no problems vey nice full screen mode and fast search. Would say better than Quickoffice for Symbians. Hope it will get full editing version soon.

You have to accept, before it starts you 30 day trial.

I hope we'll get the editing edition too soon.

Re: DataViz - Documents to GO for Linux

Just bought it - the first commercial app for my N900 :-)
The special offer is a great price where you don't even have to think about getting it or not - at 20$ I would start to argue with myself, but 9.99$ don't even show up on the radar ;-)

Re: DataViz - Documents to GO for Linux

I'm fine with the price and I'm fine with it being viewer only. I'm not interesting in editing Word files on the N900 (I'm not interested in doing that on the desktop either). I am very interested in finding out if it can show powerpoint presentations. If it can, I will have myself a portable presentation device (must test that TV cable first).

Re: DataViz - Documents to GO for Linux

for editting you could always just use koffice or openoffice if they decide to gouge on price. that's the beauty, choice.

Re: DataViz - Documents to Go

I finally decided to have a go at starting to view documents only to find out that my trial had expired despite never having started it! So much for clicking a button to start the trial. Rather than trying the product out, I am now more inclined to snub it in favour of something else: poor production managment and obviously lack of testing for such a basic failure!

That is defenedly not an common problem. I have been handling hundres of these devices and not descovered such a problem.

Im not saying that canīt be true in your case but more likely some of your friend has tried the device and acsidentally started the program.

Wrong! Unlike some people my device is not pased around unsupervised. I don't post this type of information without basis.

Additional:
A lack of reported incidents is not the same as a lack of occurence. I suspect that I am in the minority here having done the same as RevdKathy and not started the trial until I had time to test it properly.

Anyone using the new Documents To Go Premium?
http://nokiaexperts.com/dataviz-brin...creation-n900/
anyone get a free or discounted upgrade?

Re: DataViz - Documents to Go

Purchased this today to use with DropBox. Looks good now I can access Word Docs and Excel files on the N900 when I am out and about. I couldn't see an option to increase font size in the docs but I could live with that for now. You can zoom but it would be nice to be able to change the font size.

It would be a great benefit it we could have the ability to print files from it as well, but maybe I'm asking for too much :)

I bought the Premium version but cannot install it despite trying from the website and Ovi. Support is non-existent (can't even email them!). I am asking for a refund. I have tried Open office under easy Debian, K Office, abiword and Gnumeric. All are worse than quickoffice on my old E71! It's an awful indictment of the business side of Maemo.

I had some problems installing as well. I found a thread with someone mentioning that they had to remove KOFFICE first. I tried that and it finally installed. Try uninstalling any other viewers or doc apps first and then installing. You might also be able to install them again after you have installed 'Docs to Go'.

I downloaded it yesterday. I got the free upgrade to full from the viewer version I purchased in January. The first time it opened it was misbehaving in opening a file. I closed it, re-opened it and it has been smooth sailing ever since.

I was having trouble as well. It looks like the download link doesn't work for anyone who's IP address is outside the US. I was finally able to download my free upgrade after accessing the page through a proxy server.
