Nokia HERE works great on Jolla!

so it seems like the Nokia HERE Maps that is made for Android, has been leaked.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/10...sung-hardware/

This app has also the functionality to use offline navigation.

Has anyone tried it out on Jolla?

Edit: I just tried it out, and it works GREAT!!!!
Jolla should also license this

Edit2: It seems like there that the BETA expired on October 1 2014. Just change your date on your phone to September, it should work again

Edit3: Updated the link with the new leaked version, which doesn't require you to change the date!

Edit4:
It's available for all Android phones out there now.
Download Nokia HERE for Jolla (Android version)

Nokia is developing HERE maps for all major OS's. Android, iOS, WP. Tizen and Sailfish both uses HERE maps.

Hi.
Anyone insterested in tracing down the URL's for the compressed maps so we can try then with N9's & N900's? :D:D
Regards.

Its confirm that Nokia release HERE only for Samsung... at moment, than it comes official to all Android devices. The contracts with jolla is sign, here comes in the future native on sailfish os.

Re: Nokia HERE Maps leaked. Works great on Jolla!

When using Nokia maps on my N9, I noticed that place names are now displayed in English/Romanization, not in local languages. This must have happened recently, as I was able to read place names in Chinese when I visited Taiwan last year. Too bad! Because of this change, the N9 doesn't look that attractive to me any more. I wonder if the same thing happens in Lumia phones?

"This version has expired" ... Got this just after installed offline maps ...

Re: Nokia HERE Maps leaked. Works great on Jolla!

I get that too... and it crashes each time I try to login, never got past the welcome screen.

EDIT: It does the same on my Nexus 7 (with Android KitKat), so they probably shut down the beta.

It seems like there that the BETA expired on October 1 2014.
Here is a workaround: Just change your day on your phone to September, it should work again.

Re: Nokia HERE Maps leaked. Works great on Jolla!

it would be interesting to see if their api is similar to ovi still. if so could use it on bluestacks or something, use wireshark to listen for url of tile requests and then edit n900 index.html to use it.

Jaracz 2014-10-01 06:52

Re: Nokia HERE Maps leaked. Works great on Jolla!

HERE Maps don't even start on BB10 (tested yesterday, before expiration).

Strange, because the Maps from Google Play work pretty good on BB10...

So, Jolla's Android support is better here..? :)

Best regards,

Jaracz

While you are at it with wireshark , any suspicious connections being established by this leaked software?

While setting date to september works to get it launching again, it caused some system process to use 100% cpu....

Waiting for next leak :D

Re: Nokia HERE Maps leaked. Works great on Jolla!

Nice !
Trick with "september" worked for me, but...
1. In the first run i successfully downloaded Israel map, but it still show map in English.
2. In the second run and all other times it always show me "no internet connection" even if I connected to wifi or 3g. It happens also when internet connection changed, app can't find you online. Only reboot helps.
3. For some reasons it can't download Russian voice for voice navigation (Hebrew no exist). It only show black line and word "Downloading".
4. When you press on the icon in the left lower corner to get 3D view it always show message "Compass needs adjusting" -> press on it and move your phone until you feel a vibration. But you don't get vibration, just close this window.
5. Will try navigate later...

No need to reboot, just re-signing in seems to fix the no internet connection message. It's surprisingly good. Map scrolling is fluid, offline nav works well (slight delay when changing orientaton but aside from that awesone, hopefully someone can get a wrapper running that would feed old date to it without the need to change system date)

I rather suspect that they may be getting confused over the HERE technology that powers Jolla's Maps application (and positioning services)

Thanks for pointing this!

OK.. Navigation was fine, but I had 2 problems:
1. Screen was very darker :( in sunny day it's hard to see something... App don't have brightness setting, maybe the problem in the jolla itself. The Waze app is much better in this case.

2. Voice was very low :( even when connected to my BT parrot minikit (speaker). Also, no setting for this...

Some notes:
1. If you will start app when connected to 3G or wifi and it not changed/switched the download option work good (finally I downloaded Russian voice).
Now not so important, thanks to @szopin.

2. If you Mitakuulu user, I suggest you to "disconnect and quit" before you start to change system date to september and using Here. Otherwise Mitakuuku going to be crazy :D
You can see arrived messages on the notification screen, but when you open chat of this person you cant see this messages... Same with your messages, when you send you see your message, but if you will exit from chat and back again, you can't see your message... :D

3. I can do search by typing hebrew language even the map in english and it find addresses without any problem :)

Missing:
1. POI on the map (maybe need to play more with setting)
2. Speed cameras :D

Dark screen is a Jolla limitation... The screens that the Jolla have is pretty hard to see in a bright area :(

Sound issue is a Jolla bug for all Android apps. Download and install an equaliser app for android to boost the sound. I hope they will still fix this issue :(

HtheB, I know about both of this limitations and start to use Volume + and Music volume app for this many times ago.
In both cases Waze work much much better (brightness and volume) than Here without any changes in this settings that i did many times ago... :/
Will try tomorrow again...

Re: Nokia HERE Maps leaked. Works great on Jolla!

It's great if there will be proper offline navigation even as android app. Navigating is battery consuming anyway so extra consumption due to Dalvik doesn't matter. Of course native would be better, but I'm happy already if there is good android app :)

I think this will be a boon for Jolla, it really works fluidly (for an android app), sure it's based on vectors so keeping main features rendered while zooming around is cheap vs any tile based app, but still, great job. I wonder now, should Jolla relicense their HERE license to include this (someone was suggesting their license did not cover offline navigation as if it was extra feature, not base package, no idea), or did Nokia go with 'maps for life' everywhere. Maybe everybody who ever owned a Nokia has the 'life' assurance on them, whole Finland would be covered for free in that case :)

It's not just a license; it's a completely different product (we're told)

Tested today again...
* Navigation good
* Still dark screen
* Voice was fine with new downloaded Russian voice. Probably yesterday the problem was in the preinstalled English voice.

Well, they don't seem to get any native software to market from their partner companies (F-Secure, Rovio etc.) so if Jolla users are "lucky" they will get this Android version of Here to Yandex store.
