New Nokia N9 help? Erratic screen behaviour + Flashing problems (continued)
 

Hi guys, I hope you can help?

I received my N9 on wednesday evening and it is showing signs of problems already.

The handset appears to have a mind of its own as it keeps twitching and opening applications that are on a particular row of the apps panel. (as below)

The screen also appears trying to move as well and this is noticeable when left on the lockscreen where I can see it twitch. This is also affecting Apps too where if I was to open a text editor (sms etc), the screen will start cycling through the top row of the keyboard and when launching the browser it will select links in that region, open windows and start trying to zoom in and out.

When I first powered on the device it worked fine, although there was the odd occasion where I noticed that scrolling in the browser would result in unwanted zooming of the page, but this was a momentary problem and I was able to continue to download apps and use it okay. However it is now much worse and I am forced to power it off just to regain some control. However at the moment it is lauching apps straight away once booted up.

If this was my n900 the I would swear that the digitiser was pressed in and on its way out, but this is no resistive and I can't for the life of me find an option for screen calibration.

I have searched the forum and google but could not find a relating problem. The large Screen problem thread in TMO is an amoled discussion and the other unresponsive/twitching screen thread only appears to be happening when charging (where mine is not).

The phone is already running PR1.2 but I am considering flashing it to see if this helps?

Can anyone give any advice? Hopefully it is not a fault as I am in the UK, the handset was shipped from the US and I am not sure how to go on with warranty.

seems to be ghost events, so if its under warranty go to nokia care. And if not in warranty then you could try following dismantle instructions and try to disconnect / reconnect the display cables to motherboard.

Get it replaced. I had a similar issue on my first N950. It is a hardware fault.

I had exactly the same,same problem!!!!
just a week ago I decided,after flashig the phone,erasing apps from third party,to take my N9 to a nokia care.. at the end was an hardware problem....the toich screen sensor was broken.....now I've got a brand new sensor...and everything's fine!!!

Thanks for the advice guys.

Does anyone know how we go about warranty repairs in the UK? I have just been in touch with Nokia Care online who can't help me as they have not been trained and the warranty checker claims this is "out of warranty", although I am guessing the automated system may not be able to recognise this in the UK? I bought this from a forum member and the device was "as new" still in it original plastic packaging. As I said before, it was working when I powered it on but has become worse since so returning it would be my very last option if there is other avenues I can follow first :)

@requiem_76: Did you have this problem before flashing the device?

don't keep it with you... replace(via nokia care) as soon as you can... and throughly check the new device you get(camera screen everything)..

to MINKIN2: the problem with the touchscreen started BEFORE flashing it; at the beginning wasn't so problematic.....only somethimes,during typing sms.....but,suddenly,it started becoming a nightmare:impossible to use it....even impossible to insert the PIN code.....

where does the product code originate? My was from Denmark. I typed in my IMEI number into the UK site and they said it was under warranty! Only when i contacted them via email they said parts that were unavailable in the UK, i.e. the screen, they would not be able to replace.

They told me to send it back to Denmark, which i didnt in the end! as it was only a odd looking scratch.

If you are not having luck with Nokia UK, try emailing the Nokia of the country its from as Denmark for example were quite helpful! Failing that try getting back to your USA supplier!

it must be quite frustrating! this is the first time i have bought a phone from overseas and after all the stories I have heard on here my last!

If all this warranty business gets messy take out phone insurance separately. E.g. most uk Banks offer it. It covers whatever device and if they can't fix it they will give you the money. E.g Lloyds

Is not ideal but might be the only choice if you can't get it to Denmark.

Thanks guys, you all have been most helpful :) My handset was a Singapore model so may have to get over the language barrier with that one too ;)

Funny thing is, since around 22:00 last night it has been stable with no faults at all? I have also been trying to give it a good bashing too by downloading apps, repeatedly opening and closing apps, using maps (not left the house cos I have no microsim), playing games and leaving the Bord (chalk board) app open to see if there are any input/movement happening on screen. It seems still ATM.

It is now currently charging with the n900 cable right now as the other thread I read found an issue only when charging. Anyhoo, it is the weekend and I won't be able to much on a Saturday night so will watch it over the next 48hours.

Update: Over the weekend the phone was behaving itself for the most part, with only a few instances where the screen started to twitch slightly and once where I had to reboot the device. Nothing as bad as the video though.

In that time though I have been reading through the warranty & support and found that Nokia (Singapore) do not support handsets bought outside of the country of origin :( I also checked denmark as well who also would not recognise the device online.

I have also been studying the flasher guides as to how to zeroise the handset but unfortunately I have hit a snag... For some reason it won't accept the allowed firmware for the model number and is now in a state of flux showing the error [Pipe 0] Finishing in error state with status 10 according to the last attemp :(

It won't boot again and won't load any further than the Nolo screen even after trying 4 different firmware versions for it. I am now trying some of the other methods mentioned in the thread (different region and then phoenix?).

Oh well, my next image has downloaded now. Time to try again and over to the other topic. Wish me luck :)

Update time:

Well it has taken me a whole week to flash my n9 and had some success last night. I finally found an MEA image that was able to make the n9 wake up but the relating emmc would not work for some reason? So far the handset does boot up ok and is useable but will not recognise the mass storage so the camera and any other functions that depend on the emmc will not work.

As a good sign so far, in a whole days use I have yet to encounter the erratic screen problem. Only time will tell I suppose, and it has not lasted this long without a glitch before.

But still I have an issue zeroizing my phone. My model is: RM-696 NDT SINGAPORE BLACK 64GB 059J239

The software Version stated when I run flasher -i is: 'sw-release': DFL61_HARMATTAN_30.2012.07-1_PR_006

However there is no 30.2012.07-1_PR_006 for my device origin that I can see and other firmwares keep giving me the downgrade error. For me to even start enquiring about returning this, it will need to be succesfully flashed.

If anyone can give me some advice, I would be very grateful to for a reply.

I had the same problem a while back, screen was going nuts, opening apps, zooming in/out etc etc. Turned out to be caused by a 3rd party app. After a reflash the problem disappeared

I will admit, I have reflashed again but having now lost the contents of MyDocs I am going round in circles lol

This is one hell of a lesson in n9 that I am having, haha

It was the Quicktweak app that's on this forum that caused the problem

Thank for the info mate :) That may explain why I was ok for a good while before I noticed it happening? I had already started to play with a ton of apps and had many downloads at once, so did not see the correlation?



@malibu1106: Hope you are still reading this thread? I received your PM but could not reply back due to a message saying "you cannot receive or have disable messages".

I may not be the most knowledgeable person on the forum to ask ATM, as you can tell from this thread, but I'm good for moral support :) If you would like to reply in this thread, I can share what I know.

Yeah i was convinced that it was a hardware fault - took the phone to Nokia 3 times.... but as it turned out, it was definitely that app, as whenever i ended up installing it, the problem would occur

It probably isn't the app *itself* as many people use it successfully, it could be how that app interacts with other installed components.

But yeah, if you don't install it at all then you won't have the problem :)

Do not use phoenix. You can just use flasher to get your MyDocs working again.

For full flash:
# sudo flasher -f -F DFL61_HARMATTAN_30.2012.07-1_PR_LEGACY_006-OEM1-958_ARM.bin -F DFL61_HARMATTAN_30.2012.07-1.MEA_EMMC_MEA.bin -R

For only creating MyDocs:
# sudo flasher -f -a DFL61_HARMATTAN_30.2012.07-1_PR_LEGACY_006-OEM1-958_ARM.bin -F DFL61_HARMATTAN_30.2012.07-1.MEA_EMMC_MEA.bin -R


Emmc images can be found if you change server to Nokia Care suit.
