I am selling an unreleased prototype of N9-00, a.k.a. silver N950 64GB.

I ship globally. Please keep in mind, that the price on eBay is always higher, because, they (and also PayPal) charge me extra fees. If we proceed through this forum, it will be lower.

UPDATE: The final price is 500 euro. But I will also consider exchange with another device. For any offers you can message me and any questions can be written in the thread.

UPDATE 2: The device was sold a while ago, but for some reason the title can't be changed as SOLD and is still displayed as FOR SALE.

It depends on the market :)
Maybe it was okay at the time but now you really can only see it as a collector. And collector items should be 'as new'.

Even if it was not used, complete and display okay, the price would be high. But reachable if someone would be enough interested.

I wonder what causes those black blotches in N950's screens? I have seen several with that kind of illness. Is it some manhandling/dropping the device or is it something related to aging of the display?

As Peter says...
It is about how a collector would view it.
Of course that is not to say ...give it a few years ...and with even fewer n950's around...
Let alone a proto...
Even if in rough shape...
it may fetch a great deal...

And even still again...
with collectors ...it is about how rare...
So depending ...
you may find a collector now who would pay what you ask...
perhaps a collector would need yours for parts ...for his...
Never know...

But yeah ...buying maemo devices on the hope of profit turning...

Unless you buy ...say...a large lot of them ...in good shape...at a really good price...
and then resell them individually at the going prices...
Then expect to make some money ...
But purchase speculation without enquiring first ...is called risk taking gambling ...

Nothing to do with dropping (the one I have suffer this but was never dropped but used) nor handling nor age (the other one was very old but not used and was in perfect condition).
It is just the weakness all(?) N950 displays suffer.
It may be the result from usage or just material flaw.

Maybe someone knows it better?

My black spots are more like dotted liney in the middle. Others had them like this one here. So maybe hard pressure (from resistive N900 users? ;)).

I had the black creep on an N9 and removed it completely with repetitive pushing on the screen similar to the video (but with fingers). Not sure the one on the prototype is the same as it has very clear shape and edges.

Rubbing the display for 2 hours to push the liquid or whatever to the corner where it had "escaped" ?? whoo...!

I somehow feel that is not a very permanent fix; if it works at all it might well get back like it was or worse after some time.
(and might be dependent on the display type and blotch location, can it be done at all if the blot is not in the corner?)

As for doing that on N9, no way it can help, N9's got an OLED display which does not contain the liquid layer that the LCD of N950 has.
(And hence there can be no blotching on N9 screens AFAIK)

Well, still I don't want to risk it... Some comments below the video mention that it got even worse... Maybe it works in some cases, eg if the spot is new or depending on the screen etc...

I think I will offer this silver N9-00 (aka silver N950 64GB) to the community here.

I have a reduced price on ebay, but there are ebay fees + PayPal fees, so I have to include them too.

Here, the price can be lower. (no ebay fees ;) )

Apart from the black spot everything runs flawlessly. Without spot, they cost way more than 1000 euro. I remember prices of 4000 (without spot).

If you don't mind the black spot (or you have a common black N950, from which you can take the screen), this is a collective device, but can also be used like a regular but advanced N9 64GB (with full QWERTY keyboard)

I have no other means, but I don't think this is 100% correct.

All silver N950s has only 512mb RAM instead of 1GB on Black (developer) N950s.

0.5 GB might be enough for Dali UI, which is cancelled in the middle and could not use even with basic functions; or being too small for Harmattan. It will be extremely laggy unless you set some vRAM in Harmattan.

That's said, despite having 64GB internal storage, it neither advanced N9/50 nor can be used regular.

I see what you mean... I was referring to its functionality, that it has the same OS, like an N9, and same storage as the special version of N9 (might be important to some people since there is no expandable storage on any meego device, though I am not counting Lauta which I have never seen in flesh!), but on top of that it also has a full QWERTY, a better one compared to the Nokia E7 (Symbian). ;)

I think it is time to reveal its final price. The minimum price that I would accept is 500 euro.

A few days ago, a "common" black N950 16GB in similar condition with this one was sold for more than 400 euro. This one I have here is the factory unreleased prototype silver version of 64GB storage, and is fully functional, so I will not accept any offer lower than 500 euro. I will consider though trading with another device that might interest me, you can send me your offers regarding exchange. :)

I have no idea, it wasn't mine :) There was a seller from USA and he sold it last week for a bit more than 450USD (incl postage).

Currently there is another black N950 (no black spot that one though) for sale from UK I see, it is at about 1500USD (incl postage). So, the price that I have mine is really low to be honest ;)

Yes... That one I saw it on eBay... Apart from our community here and eBay, where there are still some chances to see some of these prototypes for sale, it is very hard to find them anywhere else...

So guys, I sold my Jolla Phone at 300 Euro (elsewhere, not within our TMO community), but the rare, unreleased silver prototype is still available :)

Since a common, released phone, like Jolla was sold for 300 Euro, I believe that for this super rare, unreleased prototype, current price is at least reasonable, if not low...
