I will vote (as I did in the last few rounds).
I'm happy to see that this time I won't need to choose by exclusion... we have a awesome lineup of candidates!

I've been actually thinking about that. Why not making it a poll. We have 11 candidates, a manageable number of poll options.

this will just create confusion specially , what matters is to have more voters than in the past ... feel tree to talk with candidates in the specific thread ...

Do pre-election preference polls create confusion? They shouldn't, as long as they are done properly.
But don't worry, I am not going to create one ;)

If you voted earlier, sure you will be able to do that this time :)
The voting macine is semi-automatic, if you are [*]eligible to vote, you will be automatically mailed the voting token.

[*] meaning; have maemo account, have linked accounts, have enough karma...

Erm, erm.
Having the accounts linked is not mandatory, afaik. But it will lead you to higher karma (due to karma points earned by posts/thanks on tmo) ...

True, yeah, but technicality really.
It is a really rare beast indeed who manages to collect karma from just wiki & blogs. I almost tend to say there's nobody like that :)

HtheB is/was one of the candidates having collected enough karma to vote withoit having linked :D
But I agree, in general it will be quite hard to collect enough karma to vote (or even get voted ;)) without linking the accounts.

You get fined each time you don't vote (150-200AUD)
So that's local council, state and federal.
It's a joke and a shame, all to amuse the docile peasantry here.
I haven't voted since 2007...

I consider that a really bad practice! We hold our right to vote as a honorary responsibility, not something that is forced to us from above!
I have to admit that even as I lived for three years in WA back when I was under the age limit to vote yet, I do not ever remember hearing about that kind of procedure... Maybe it is a newer thing, that was back in the early eighties?

@Wikiwide has a really good point there, this thing must piss off so many people they'd constitute a reasonably large number of people to do something about it!

In finland we have a system where if large enough group of people sign an online petition that some law has to be created/deleted/modified, then the parliament has to process it through the normal law-making procedures. It does not guarantee that it gets passed, there have been both proposals that have been accepted and rejected, but at least processing it is mandatory.

Re: Will you vote for next Maemo Council Elections ?

re Aust voting
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electo...m_of_Australia

"Voting is compulsory both at federal elections and at elections for the state and territory legislatures. In the states of South Australia, Tasmania and Western Australia voting at local elections is not compulsory.[6] About 5% of enrolled voters fail to vote at most elections. People in this situation are asked to explain their failure to vote. If no satisfactory reason is provided (for example, illness or religious prohibition), a fine of up to $170 is imposed,[7] and failure to pay the fine may result in a court hearing."
Edit, wikipedia is wrong: Voting is also compulsory in most local government elections.

"Why don't you vote in the party which would allow people to refuse voting, if they want to?"
Because they wont win, and because of the preferential voting system, the vote goes to another party.

Jefferson said about democracy: the tyranny of the majority over the minority (i.e., 51% enslaving the other 49%).
So true!

worthwhile read, particularly when considering what's recently going on in maemo community. There's a reason why council terms are limited to 6 months and re-elections are triggered easily and even more so after HiFo got established.
That new order movement is aiming at smashing all that, establishing a small vocal group as in

Voted.

One note: clicking on the link in the voting page (http://maemo.org/vote/) sends you via HTTP to the page for the actual vote, while it's possible to get the same page as HTTPS (i.e. with a secure, encrypted link).
As it's about private voting, I think it would be a good idea to switch to HTTPS by default.
We live in a post-Snowden era after all, don't we? :)

Remarkably good idea!
I'll fix the mail template for the next election.

---------- edit ----------

Actually, now as I checked it, the voting page is not available via HTTPS, you get a 404 on trying it.

How did you access the page via https?

@juiceme
Not the voting entry page
http://maemo.org/vote/
is accessible via https. but the underlying election page
http://maemo.org/vote/vote.php?election_id=38

See
