Ayyy, I thought I'm the only one with this recent problem, I even unsubscribed most sites and left only Nokia, but it just keeps pending forever and ever.....

Re: N9 RSS feed update problem

So we are not alone. I tried searching all the Nokia forums but no luck.

Same problem. . I usually just turn the autosync off so its not that big a deal.. What is though, is how long it takes to load the news.. It takes absolutely ages compared to some google readers that i have on other phones which take 10 seconds to load just as many stories with full content .. Anyone know how to make the sync faster?

Are you able to sync the feeds? Because I can't even sync manually.

Me too, and yet the feeds are all update to the most recent and it its ongoing for no reason, i simple it cancel but later on it comesback and continues. Until u manually cancel,

It keeps pendings?

Re: N9 RSS feed update problem

Most of the time i sync manually and it works just fine however sometimes i get the 'invalid feed' message and that feed doesn't update, i solve that by trying again a couple of times.. But like i said most of the time it works fine just very slow which is my main problem with the n9.. People talk bad about the lumia on this forum but i have one and it does things literally three times as fast as the n9, every little thing from syncing feeds to even going from one settings menu to another.. Anyway sorry for being off topic..

im not sure how to fix the issue where the feeds wont sync even manually.. Maybe try reflashing, i did that and solved many issues while keeping all the data!

Same problem here. Syncing stopped working today, no button even for manual sync. :confused:

Same problem, too.
reboot will do the trick back to functional.
seriously... We do not need to refresh like this case.

strace for a while, no clue for now. Weird.

Re: N9 RSS feed update problem

Wow, and here I was thinking it was because my feeds were weird. Time for an entry at the bug tracker. Will somebody please do it?

In the meanwhile, there are two other apps, Feedingit and Colors that may be better RSS readers. I'm gonna try them both.

I've tried rebooting and it does not solve the problem.
I also confirm that updating the feeds is very slow.

okay, I will explain the detail of my case.

reboot
if [[ auto_update == 1 ]]; then
return "feeds up to date for JUST one time“;
elif [[ auto_update == 1 ]]; then
do you manual_update and then
set auto_update=1
return "back to normal"
fi

cheers. this should definitely be some kind of bug, may be related to time. like the 2000 bug. Just a guess.

I can see this behaviour on my N9 for a few days too.

I have no idea what could trigger this.

Re: N9 RSS feed update problem

I checked with ps -ef | grep rss and then killed the running process. After that I was able to update the feeds manually.

rooster13 2012-02-12 11:39

Re: N9 RSS feed update problem

Could someone experiencing the RSS update problem try killing the process as described in my earlier post and confirm wheter it helps.

To me it seems to be working fine or then the problem solved itself.

Re: N9 RSS feed update problem

The kill helped, at least temporarily.

Open terminal and do
Code:

ps -ef | grep rss
Then kill the process with pid from the command.

That seems to solve it.

Another salient question: is there any reasonable way to clean out the ~/.cache/tracker/meta.db file (without deleting it and starting from scratch)? It looks like it's used by every native app. Mine is over a million lines, with over 400K INSERT statements.

A bit off topic.

And also I haven't got a clue...

Check post #22 for a quick and dirty solution.

Re: N9 RSS feed update problem

Just executing

Code:

killall rssatom
in the terminal should also work and is a bit easier. The sync must be underway for the process to exist.

Thank you for the votes guys! :)

rooster13, thank you for bringing this up to the community. I've been having this issue since January, and I thought it was just a fluke. It appears more are affected.

Let's hope this annoying bug gets fixed soon. Hopefully (emphasis) comes with PR1.2... :)

Sorry, I should have been more clear.

My point was - since the rss app uses the meta.DB File to store feed data, isn't it likely that the performance of that app is related to the size of that file? also, I have some very old feed entries that are increasingly taking up more and more slots of the maximum (or at minimum being a nuisance, since they always show up at the top). There seems to be some kind of database management error that prevents them from being deleted.

Incidentally, I recall similar issues with the n900, where too many SMS messages eventually caused the database to malfunction.

Re: N9 RSS feed update problem

I haven't got any problem with RSS feeds, works fine for me, but it's very slow if I update all (nearly 50 feeds) in the same time.

Re: N9 RSS feed update problem

So I started getting this issue just recently as well, just after I updated to the most recent cutetube with feed integration. I tested it and it seems to be causing the issue, uninstalled and feeds are updating just fine after reboot.

With it still installed. I tried a simple reboot but feeds went back to hanging and not updating.

Let me know if this makes any sense, but it worked for me, if anyone can confirm it would help too

I am more than certain that its causing some conflict with the feeds.

Re: N9 RSS feed update problem

I don't have Cutetube but I have the same problem, so I doubt it's Cutetube problem

Have you installed anything else with feed integration of any form?

I have definitely reproduced the issue using cutetube and have not had it since I uninstalled.

It could be total coincidence so just wondering if uninstalling worked for anyone else lol

Ayyy guys, not sure about Y'all but mine now seems to be fixed starting today.... I've tested it a couple of times and works as normal. And I didn't do anything to the phone, it somehow seems to have fixed itself! Try refreshing and see if yours is Fixed too!!
