maps.google.com on N9

Hi
Can anyone confirm if maps.google.com works on the N9
It is supposed to load a mobile version of a web-based google maps
for more information: http://googlemobile.blogspot.com/201...e-browser.html

This is the only thing keeping me from buying the N9, i need google maps

Thanks

Re: maps.google.com on N9

Have you ever tried Nokia Maps? I feel it's a far better product actually. All you would need to do is swap your favorites on over.

Re: maps.google.com on N9

Nokia maps does not have public transport information for busses. (Atleast not for where i live). Also google has more businesses and descriptions, reviews etc

Nothing to stop you loading maps.google.com on your mobile browser.

Re: maps.google.com on N9

It does not load the mobile (smartphone) version, only the dumbphone version. Don't think the n9 browser allows for location sharing.

what do you get if you click this: http://www.google.com/maps/m

Re: maps.google.com on N9

Location sharing works fine with the link from above, in native browser, Fennec and opera mobile.

Btw are you sure N9's Nokia Maps do not have your areas public transport info, have you actually checked or asked somewhere?

Cheers, I remember using that link during my ownership of the n900. Everything worked reasonably well with the mobile browser google maps except pinch to zoom. You were able to double tap to zoom in, but short of refreshing the page, there was no way to zoom out.

It's a good way to get to Latitude as well.

were you using the default browser, microb? Did using the volume buttons not zoom you out? I can understand the frustration otherwise

Of course it does!

It's one of the most advanced browser on the market!
It has full HtML5 support and Location sharing support.

They worked for zooming in and out on the whole page, but not for zooming out on just the map.

Re: maps.google.com on N9

I have been a google maps user for years, i love the thorough searches, but nokia maps so far hasnt been bad. Although directions can use some work and a freeway that opened an year ago is still not on there (google had it the next day 52east from 125 to 67). The directions to a bank inside a big shopping plaza guides me to the point on the street and there is no entrance on that side and thats after going past the plaza and making a U-turn, if i had made a left at the street before, it woulda took me right into the plaza, thats San diego for you.
P.S. I have hundreds of favorites on my google account, how do i bring them to nokia maps?

Was curious about the same thing. I havent found a way to import all google maps favourites but one way to manually do this is to go to
maps.nokia.com and log in with your nokia account. You can then see any favourites you might have added on your N9 and vice versa. So a long tedious solution is to re-add all favourites on your computer and they should sync with nokia maps.

Update: To ensure the sync happens you need to open Favourites from the N9 Maps and hit the sync icon (two arrows icon)

Regarding corrections to Nokia Maps, go to help once you're logged in and read this.

What is Map Creator?

Map Creator lets you add streets and roads in selected countries to Nokia Maps. You can also change the map and make corrections if you find something wrong.

With Map Creator, you can describe what type of road you're adding and include information about the surface condition, how well the road is lit, how fast you can drive on it, if it is a one- or two-way thoroughfare and much more.

Re: maps.google.com on N9

Just opened 'Drive' to see if the favourites you save in Maps carry over and they do not. Unless I cant see the option to 'Drive' to a favourite? What rubbish. Majorly disappointed.

Update:
Ok so if you go to a favourite within Maps, and hit navigate (using the car symbol) it opens up Drive. How very Nokia to make this simple.

I noticed that too; I am no longer able to pan or zoom. Weird.

Works fine here, with zoom & pan (Sweden)

I tried the following link for public transport
http://maps.nokia.com/services/#|51....0|0|normal.day
I live in montreal, quebec, canada. In directions its telling me to walk 40 mins to the subway instead of taking a bus.

Also on google I have the pda version (http://www.google.com/pda) of a google and not as beautiful version of iphone or android.
although the url is www.google.com/m Visually it looks like to /www.google.com/pda.

It must come from the user agent is male reconu by google. Can you one change it?

Re: maps.google.com on N9

based on the above, it must be something to do with the country. For instance, google in Australia, all searches at google.com search through the australian filter. For other countries, it must filter it through it's own filter, which disables the link. It's a google "issue", not a nokia n9 issue. I imagine trying the link from another device will have the same result.

Link works perfect in australia. Maybe someone affected can try via a proxy?

I tested maps.google.com in firefox with the N9's user agent. still does not work. I also tried using an australian proxy, and USA proxy.
However, it works perfectly without any proxy with an iphone/Android user agent.

These links used to work, Google must have changed something. Now all it does is redirect me to their dumbphone page.

Re: maps.google.com on N9

maybe someone could try installing firefox
using these instructions http://blog.wapreview.com/15780/

maybe it will work in combination with these add-ons
proxy changer, try using a proxy from another country
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/mob...le/?src=search
enables touching gestures to pan through map
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/mob...od/?src=search
Script modifying (this might be a little complicated)
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/mob...sh/?src=search
user agent switcher
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/mob...ny/?src=search

Re: maps.google.com on N9

Also try this optimization of google maps orignally made for the n900
http://tomch.com/maemaps.html
hopefully, if this works, i can optimize it for the screen size of the n9

fennec is very slow and full of bug. User Agent Switcher does not work on this version of fenec.
Even putting the user agent manuelemnt maps does not work!

Just installed gapps:

http://my-meego.com/software/applica...Auto=489&faq=9

It's an alternate browser tweaked just for Google web apps that seems to be a great stop gap solution until Google stops with punishing any N9 user agent string requests by sending them to WAP pages...
