OS2008 HE on Nokia 770
 

I installed the OS 2008 Hacker Edition for the Nokia 770 and although there were dire warning about performace it ran well. The only issue I had was the system sound. It was extremely low. This happened from boot forward. Any internet radio stations I added were barley audible.. BUT the preset BBC stations were of normal volume. I have since uninstalled and returned to OS 2007 HE BUT I'm wondering if anyone has a solution to this issue? Any help appreciated.. thanks

Speaking of issues, there are already a few topics about 2008He on 770, so if you're starting a new one, at least make it specific and please give it a specific subject. It's really not cool to browse a forum looking like this:

Thank you. This is the first forum I have ever posted in.. I usually search and solve. Love my 770 and it's been a learning experience considering I knew nothing when I started. I'll do better next time. :)

i installed the os2008 today and till now i found the following bugs:1)the sound is horrible and u just can't listen to music in this way,also it's very low.2)no support for video at all,i guess the codecs are missing or just doesn't work.3)it crashes when it boots up if u touch the screen,u will need to wait about a minute and then u can do whatever u want and it won't crash.4)it needs at least 16mb virtual memory,as more as u add it will improve the performance,in my case i added the whole 64mb and it runs very good.5)no flash support althoug google maps works very good,youtube,google videos and the rest are not available in this os2008HE.6)skype doesn't work that good,in fact i wasn't able to make calls,it says a codec is missing in the error pop up i receive,the chat on it works perfect.
those are at the moment the bugs i found,i'll keep this os coz it looks so cool,it's a beautiful os,anyway i'm not a media guy so i don't care about the sound and i believe in some days,weeks or months all this bugs will be fixed,remember it's the first release and it's not recomended to install if u want a stable os.at the moment except the bugs it's very stable for me.i'll keep it.

EDIT: i found a nice trick to increase a bit more the performance,u may turn the brightness to thr minimum or at least very low,i know it's dark but not that much and also the volume coz anyway the sound sucks,doing this the performance increases very nice and the browser gets a lot of more speed.check it by yourself :)

I want to update my n770 to the tablet 2007, where can I download it? I know that i could use some site posted here but it ask me for an Id number that I don´t know how to get.

The ID number you have to enter is your WLAN Mac (without colons). It's printed in the battery compartment when you open the 770. The About dialog in settings shows it, too, IIRC.

Sound was fine in 2006, 2007He
so what's wrong with 2008He
Does it mean N800, N810 come with the same sound quality ?

sounds in OS2008 was designed wis stereo speaker in mind, and 770 only has mono speaker, and AFAIK, it is the main reason for this low volume. Sound on N810 is ok. This is a software issue.
Nokia is not interested in anything related to "outdated" devices (<N900)

Coming with 2008He OS Nokia did great job.

Do you suggest 2 x 4 OHm vs. 1 x 8 OHm problem ?

As 2008He comes with
GPS location and I have got an external GPS bt device,
tell me what is a use of GPS location from control panel.
Can it be used as Geolocation in Google Maps, MaeMaps apps ?

yesterday I've get 2008he a second try. I really like it, and I think it is fast enougth.

The problem is the sound, the reason I give up the first time.

Today I solve this problem... its really simple...

I mean top "+" "-" switch.
Tested once again
and it worked for Radio applet
and didn't for media player.

After switching off and on, sound is low as before.
So the above shell code lines should be run as a shell script
on system start up, every time 2008He is down and back up.

Tested today BBC Radio 1 and sound is low either played as an applet
or via Media Player.

Yesterday played much louder after setting 100 to volume levels.

It looks like your solution is excellent but my 770 keeps crashing.

My 770 also crashes, but not more than with 2006 or 2007he.

I try to find the OS2007HE or OS2008HE at the WWW.
All links are down, server are not in service.

770 lives forever, thats to Tear and OS2008HE

I've got Tear running on my Nokia 770 under OS2008HE and its awesome to have my 770 with new life.

I ran Sunspider benchmark on several browsers, including Debian armel under N800, but I was really suprised that Tear on the 770 got a really decent score! Boot to MMC and over 500 OS2008 applications are on Maemo.org. I have full comparison numbers and more info on my blog, enjoy!

Why is the 2007HE forum section locked?
 

By the way, I know this is a off topic, but what is the logic in making the 2007HE section of the forum locked, considering that this is still the best OS for 770? The fact OS2007 is not an official OS of any device is irrelevant.

A near death experience for my dearly 770. I installed telescope under 2008HE, it failed. So, what the hack, i just reflashed my 770 would just be fine. Well, not quite sure how it happended. The flash to 2008He was 'interrupted' and shut off during half installation. The tablet was left in a permanently ON situation. I took the battery out and tried again, this time, the Nokia Update Wizard will only recognize the tablet transiently and then turned to keep on search, device NOT found. Well, I guess, this is really end of life for the 770.

I re-hooked everything up, it again, failed to boot, and upon flashing, give the "device NOT found" and refused to flash. With the tablet hooked up with USB and the USB sign on the right upper corner, out of desparately, I hold on the swap key (the one shaped like a house) and press on the power key again, this step made the update wizard recognize the 770, I hurriedly press the 'next' key on my window keyboard and the flashing program then catch on without a glitch. I gues it worked depended on the stage of your 'half' flashing. Anyway, just in case I or anybody will need it in the future.
