[Announce] kernel-power stable v50 in Extras

Kernel-power version v51 is now in this thread.

Kernel-power version v50 is now in Extras!

Update (from old version):
Use Hildon Application Manager or via apt-get

Installation:
From download page: https://maemo.org/downloads/product/...-power-flasher
Or in Hildon Application Manager install package: Linux kernel for power user
Or via apt-get package: kernel-power-flasher

Overclock support (optional):
From download page: https://maemo.org/downloads/product/...power-settings
Or in Hildon Application Manager install package: Linux kernel for power user (settings and overclock)
Or via apt-get package: kernel-power-settings

Multiboot support (optional):
In Hildon Application Manager install packages: Maemo ULTimate BOOTloader and Linux kernel for power user (boot image for multiboot)
Or via apt-get packages: multiboot and kernel-power-bootimg

U-Boot support (optional):
First from U-Boot for Nokia RX-51 with BootMenu thread install needed U-Boot packages. Then in Hildon Application Manager install package Linux kernel for power user (boot image for multiboot)
Or via apt-get package kernel-power-bootimg

Packet injection wifi driver (optional):
Source code and compiled driver for >= v50 is in this post: http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=458

Uninstallation:
Multiboot and overclock support can be uninstalled via Hildon Application Manager or via apt-get. Uninstalling kernel image is possible only via menu entry "Nokia Kernel". NEVER UNINSTALL KERNEL POWER PACKAGES!!! IT CAN MAKE YOUR DEVICE UNBOOTABLE.

Try to modprobe -f. Drivers are compiled agains pre v50 version. lxp must recompile it against released v50 to avoid problems...

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v50 in Extras-Devel

Please anyone who has not enabled SR, to do a little experimenting with default and dsp profiles and to confirm/not if SR is stable and how is the battery life with SR. Also if you have your own undervolting profile, I will appreciate a comparison between your manually tuned voltages and SR calculated. SR should be rock stable in KP50, but I need a confirmation.

Note:
Have in mind that if you have your own undervolting profile, SR would not make battery life better, at least not much.

Just load dsp profile "kernel-config load dsp" if you OC, or default profile "kernel-config load default" if you don't OC. You must be root of course.

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v50 in Extras-Devel

wow yes its stable, but i limits it to 500 900 set, and its still so stable, :)

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v50 in Extras-Devel

My apologies for this off topic question, but I was just wondering if the N9 actually has SR enabled by default?

n900_ 2012-03-19 13:46

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v50 in Extras-Devel

I have 'ideal' profile on kp50, 500-900MHz clock and vdd1 and vdd2 enabled
It's stable and fast

Batterylife - hmm ... I disconnet from charger 8hours ago and conky showing 50% of battery. Using a lot of wifi, network browsing and jabber. Sometimes easy-debian.

why i cant upgrade, i tried to uninstall by taping nokia kernell on the menu but the error is "error during uninstallation: could not install nokia kernel."

i tried in x term. "apt-get install kernel-power-bootimg"
got unmet dependencies; kernel-power-modules (=1:2.6.28-10power50) but 1:2.6.28-10power49 is to be installed

:confused:

KP50 is to be installed, not KP49. Follow instructions as they say. It doesn't get simpler than that.

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v50 in Extras-Devel

I bet this has been asked before, but what will happen if I install the U-Boot packages AFTER i have kernel power installed? Will I screw up my boot that way?

And, should I use uboot or multiboot, or is it a matter of taste?

What better way to start the week than with a new version of kernel-power!? :D

Upgrade went smooth, and I now have v50 up and runing! Feels great thus far.

after update to v50 i can't open any movie in Maemo player. it writes unsupported media format. can anyone check and confirm... maybe i am not the only one confronting with that problem. Thx

Not stable for my device yet, did a little testing with default dsp and a modified dsp profile.

I find that SR is not stable for stock mpu clocks above 600hz, voltage seems to be too low for stability even at default DSP clock(430).

eg 720 xx 430 (voltage 45 shown with kernel config)
805 xx 430 ..

both = fail, occasional reboot when locked on each frequency with 90+ % mpu load for above 3-4 minutes.

Tried doing a dirty trick to achieve stability by using dsp boost @ 250,

I do not wish to oc the DSP unnecessarily (I use 850 xx 600 for video recording purpose),so i upped the dsp by 10 mhz to trigger the dsp boost voltages on lower clocks. which will result in the mpu being supplied with more juice.

eg 720 xx 440 (voltage 46 shown with kernel config)
805 xx 440 ...

Still not very stable when the the DSP is loaded with 720p video, it results in a definite reboot after a few minutes of playback.

I would stick with my custom profile till the issue is hopefully sorted.

Anything above 600 MHz for MPU is not stock :)

dsp boost kicks in only when DSP is active, otherwise it is not used

On which profile?

Could you please post both your custom profile and the result of kernel-config show with SR enabled, so I can compare calculated vs manually tuned values.

Also could you confirm(not) that SR is stable for you with "default" profile loaded, i.e. no OC

firstly thanks to everyone involved with power v50 cheers (Pali, Freemangordon) :)
I am using dsp profile min @ 500 max @ 805 with sr enabled and had no playback problems and no reboots. battery life seems okay as well :)

Same here for me , no problems at all . All is running fine , no reboots , battery life OK !

Thx & Cheers :D

;) My bad, what i've meant was "oc mpu with stock dsp clocks" is not stable, stupid sentence composition by me :)

I'm aware, thats why i mentioned about 720p video playback issue, because it creates a 60+% mpu load + dsp load. only done for testing purposes and curiosity.

Same modified dsp profile was used was all tests (only the dsp frequencies were changes as mentioned on previous post)

Yes, it seems to be stable.

Custom profile :

up to 600 SR calculated values are fine, though I'm used to supplying a lil more voltage( about 1-2 steps additionally against the SR calculated (real) voltage)

@ OC freqs,

720 45 430 (caused reboot at 43 [= SR calculated voltage])
805 50 430 (causes reboot at 48)
850 52 600 (-used mainly for video recording purposes)
900 54 600 (-used mainly for video recording purposes)

DSP profile (SR) - with flat dsp rate of 430

pls note that the values are as shown on kernel config

250 23 180 - stable
500 36 360 - stable
550 38 400 - stable
600 40 430 - stable
720 45 430 - not stable
805 49 430 - not stable
850 51 430 - not stable
900 xx 430 - reboot withing 2 seconds

*ps : above result are done without touching dsp boost value.

1 Attachment(s)
my profile no reboots even in high load:

MINFREQ=250
MAXFREQ=900
# list of frequency configurations: each "frequency:volt,dsprate"
FREQS="0:10,90 125:21,90 250:22,180 500:29,400 550:31,400 600:33,430 720:41,430 805:45,600 850:46,600 900:49,600 950:53,600 1000:55,600 1100:60,600 1150:69,520"
SMARTREFLEX_VDD1=1
SMARTREFLEX_VDD2=1
GOVERNOR=ondemand
UP_THRESHOLD=95
SAMPLING_RATE=300000
IGNORE_NICE_LOAD=1
POWERSAVE_BIAS=0

it works even with: MAXFREQ=950. I will try SR with over 1000 :). but i do not expect it to work :)

PS.observed something else jabber does not work... keep disconnecting
