[Announce] Nokia Car Mode with Mirrorlink
Nokia finally released car mode for harmattan after 7 months of waiting, but with a pricetag of 20€ here in Finland. Which I'm not ready to pay if it's as bad as the symbian version (looking at store comment section).
I would like to hear experiences from people who have bought it. I'm not going to invest 20€ for a buggy nokia software :p http://store.ovi.com/content/296164 |
Re: [Announce] Nokia Car Mode with Mirrorlink
You can try the free version without the Mirrorlink option :)
http://store.ovi.com/content/232236 Edit: Sorry, seems like this one is for Symbian, I overlooked that... Weird that there is no free version for Harmattan  |

Re: [Announce] Nokia Car Mode with Mirrorlink
yup thats for symbian...Nokia is really stupid for screwing it with such a high price tag...car mode is free on symbian and i dont remember who but one of Nokia's own dev had said on MNB.com that car mode for n9 too would be released soon...its taken them months and that too only with MirrorLink and an exorbitant price tag..

Well it said "Nokia N9 will be added at a later date.", but I expected them to deliver it faster :) Maybe there is still hope for vimeo app that they promised on conversations... Well thats not up to Nokia I think as it's not their app, but I hate when they promise something on official channels and won't deliver. |
Re: [Announce] Nokia Car Mode with Mirrorlink
it says it was removed from nokia store when i tried accessing it on my n9.
|
Re: [Announce] Nokia Car Mode with Mirrorlink
That's because you opened the link for the Symbisn version :)

Re: [Announce] Nokia Car Mode with Mirrorlink
can we group together? 20 pers give 1 euro.
1 person pays for the app and with qtweak we can grab the deb from the store and share? :) Just an idea... Dont know if this will work. |

Wow. Calm down nothing to worry about. :)
Was just thinking out loud. :) |
Re: [Announce] Nokia Car Mode with Mirrorlink
Here is some news,
I did manage to buy the App, but unfortunately it does not install..... I did call famous Nokia Customer Care and they do not know what might have caused the problem..... ????!!!!!!! Anyways, hopefully they will be kind enough to call me back within 24-48 hours after they complete their investigation. |

I wonder how difficult a Big Button App launcher would be to create in Qt? Okay it would not have the mirrorlink but could still be useful for those of us who use our phones as sat-have and music controls. |
Re: [Announce] Nokia Car Mode with Mirrorlink
I have seen "car mode" files whilst making my themes. I think it was already there. I doubt Mirrorlink would be though.

Re: [Announce] Nokia Car Mode with Mirrorlink
It will be nice to have app like this even if we don't have mirror link, but we need configurable option for drive app, for example if I want to use WAZE instead Drive app...
For me it can be very useful with ProfileMatic, that have rule to start BT when I go to my car and I simply can add the custom action for opening app like this.. We just need a simple app with 3 buttons that can open phone app, Drive/Waze, Music.. No need mirror link.. |
Re: [Announce] Nokia Car Mode with Mirrorlink
Just got a new JVC head unit with mirrorlink, can't believe Nokia is still charging US$30 for the Car Mode with MirrorLink on N9.
They should have all Nokia developed apps in the store for free for a phone that's not being supported. Similar app is free on Samsung Galaxy S III, I might just borrow my friend's to try it out. |

It was bad enough that they forced N9 users to pay, & didn't offer a free (sans mirror-link) version to trial 1st. I just started looking into mirror-link head units: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...40#post1350940 |
Re: [Announce] Nokia Car Mode with Mirrorlink
The Mirrorlink app is only 2rmb here in the Chinese OVI store, or the equivalent of 35 cents USD... The price discrepancy of apps in different countries is astounding
|
Re: [Announce] Nokia Car Mode with Mirrorlink
^It's still available in the Chinese Nokia Store?
It seems to have been pulled from other places. I just started looking into mirror-link head units :( http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...40#post1350940 |
Re: [Announce] Nokia Car Mode with Mirrorlink
Yep, still available in Chinese OVI store, I was gonna buy it before I go back to the US just because it's so cheap, but I don't even have a Mirrorlink headunit. I've heard mixed reviews about the headunits though, my friend couldn't get it to work with his Galaxy S3 with demo units at Best Buy even with the app installed.

Re: [Announce] Nokia Car Mode with Mirrorlink
Yeah, apparently there's a much better Samsung app now which rectifies many issues there...
I just hope Nokia will continue to support N9 owners who've paid good money for that support. i.e. the app, the N9, "&" the head-unit! |

It's still there for a crazy price, considering support is likely to be poor  http://store.ovi.com/content/296175 |
Re: [Announce] Nokia Car Mode with Mirrorlink
Ok. i have buyed, also for a crazy price but like i'm playing a lot with my N9 also reflashing.
So for you can only donwload a limited time. It is a way to backup these app? |

Re: [Announce] Nokia Car Mode with Mirrorlink
Any chance someone has a working link to the app in the Chinese OVI Store?
I wasn't aware of this thread before I had a car with MirrorLink support, but now I'm trying to find the app for the N9 somewhere, since my car now has MirrorLink (and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) support. Edit: just found the following, which may provide a solution with mirrored OVI Store apps... http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=94722 |

Perhaps carmode application should be installed first followed by carmode-backend, but should be interested if anyone has success. |

I now have a 'Car mode' application icon, and I started that, and it seems to behave as expected, at a glance, and I haven't noticed any disappearing icons or unusual behavior yet. I haven't tried actually using this in my car yet, but I'll post another update when I get a chance, probably in a few days, since I don't have access to my car for a bit. |
Re: [Announce] Nokia Car Mode with Mirrorlink
So, I finally got a chance to take a look at the behavior in my car, and drum roll... N9 shows up as a MirrorLink device, and the 'Car Mode' apps show up on the touchscreen in the car, but attempting to start any of the apps seems to lead to... nothing, except a message that an app couldn't be started, and basically I just get an empty screen in the car.
The apps do appear to run on the phone itself, but something seems to be broken or out of spec. Also, the behavior above is what I get when the car is parked, and if I actually start driving, all of the app icons are muted, and the apps are essentially disabled because they haven't been certified for use while driving, etc... After all the dust settles, the N9/phone integration in my car (2016 VW, Discovery headunit, IIRC) makes MirrorLink and Car Mode on the N9 look like antiquated, unsupported junk, and the 'native' phone/carkit integration is actually very good without MirrorLink, Bluetooth pairing only, access to contacts, call history, A2DP audio source, reading/composing text messages on the car touchscreen, etc... |
