Facebook Official Client (Java Version)

PhoneMe by Davy must be installed first (to run Java applications) which automatically install Nimbuzz & Opera Mini

a. cvm-midlets_0.6_armel.deb
b. cvm_MAEMO-mr2.b168+svn20547-20120818_armel.deb
OR cvm_MEEGO-mr2.b168+svn20547-20120818_armel.deb
Link -> http://davy.preuveneers.be/phoneme/public/maemo/deb

Download Facebook Java version & put in folder /opt/phoneme:
http://www.filebox.com/n02jk47323af

Making desktop shortcut:
1. Open X-Terminal as root & type cd /usr/share/applications/hildon/
2. cp nimbuzz.desktop facebook.desktop
3. open that file -> facebook.desktop (using LeafPad application or else) & replace all nimbuzz words with facebook

Caveat:
There is a bug in notification function which I think essential, so this application serves for trial purpose only

Tips:
For MeeGo users, in case trouble see:
a. post #54 -> http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...1&postcount=54
b. post #56 -> http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...9&postcount=56
c. post #60 -> http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...9&postcount=60

Re: Facebook Official Client (Java Version)

sorry for the inconvenience because i don't know where else to put the file, any idea? (FYI only, there is a caveat i just added in the instruction about an essential bug in the notification function)

Ok thanks I managed to install :) but when I try to save the edited facebook.desktop file it doesn't let me do that... It needs to be done via terminal?

Copy to ~/MyDocs, edit then copy them back to origin or use nano/vi in terminal to edit to be able to save changes immediately...

example you want to copy xyz.desktop to ~/MyDocs you do in terminal:

Code:

devel-su
{enter your password}
cp -R /path/to/xyz.desktop /home/user/MyDocs/

edit it then to copy it back again in terminal:

Code:

devel-su
{enter your password}
cp -R /home/user/MyDocs/xyz.desktop /destination/

the facebook icon should appear automatically in application menu for Maemo.

but it seems you are using Meego, although PhoneMe should work as well sorry i'm not familiar w/ Meego :(

OK thanks, yes I use Meego (N9).
Just to make sure when changing copied file facebook.desktop the Exec...line ends up with Nimbuzz.jad. Should it be changed to facebook.jad meaning same file type or should it be changed to facebook.jar?
There is a Nimbuzz.jad file (and jar file) in /opt/phoneme but no Facebook.jad file only the jar file!:rolleyes:

I'm so sorry for Meego users because I can not test it by myself :(

Theoritically Meego is supported by PhoneMe emulator & the jar file has nothing to do w/ phone compatibility as long as the emulator is OK (facebook.desktop too only simple script w/o technical relevance)

Have tried to use the Maemo cvm file instead of the MeeGo cvm file at N9, still no Facebook application at menu but at least by activating facebook.desktop at hildon map you get the facebook log on screen instead of the Could not open JAR file answer!:o

Tried to share the facebook.desktop file at hildon map, hoping to put it on the menu but even with Filebox root you are not allowed!:confused:

check post #23 in this thread -> http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...5&postcount=23 (perhaps it's relevant for Meego?)
