Mer + LXDE on N900 = Ubuntu Mobile?
Not sure if this might be useful to anyone, but here it is. Try at your own risk.
I installed Mer onto my N900 micro-sd card in a dual boot configuration, as per the instructions here; http://mer-project.blogspot.com/2010...okia-n900.html The only difference was that I used the most recent image found here. http://stskeeps.subnetmask.net/mer/0...sting11.tar.gz This works, but due to waiting for the GL support is not really useable. Then I configured network access, and followed these instructions for installing LXDE. apt-get update apt-get --no-install-recommends install lxde libgtkstylus onboard echo "exec startlxde" >> ~/.xinitrc and reboot! Original instructions found here for N810, but it worked for me on my N900; http://blog.linuxniche.net/?p=64 I haven't really done much testing yet, but it seems to work reasonably well! Enjoy! |
Re: Mer + LXDE on N900 = Ubuntu Mobile?
Wow.. that's cool to see my instructions still work on a new device and after this much time ;). But, Mer is Mer so no surprise there.
Awesome to see someone got LXDE on their N900.. Mer+LXDE on my N810 was extremely useful for a long time with all the debian packages that ran just fine when used with a stylus. Too bad phone stuff wouldn't work (at least, I wouldn't think so)... until that gets sorted I'd still think running Easy Debian + LXDE would be a better solution. |

That does run pretty fast. You need to get a human theme so it will look more like ubuntu tho.

Re: Mer + LXDE on N900 = Ubuntu Mobile?
apt-get update
apt-get --no-install-recommends install lxde libgtkstylus onboard echo "exec startlxde" >> ~/.xinitrc How is this done ? I cant get the onscreen keyboard to work. I see it, i can type. but it does not show up in terminal. On the N900 keyboard i can not find a button for the "-" |
Re: Mer + LXDE on N900 = Ubuntu Mobile?
isnt it easier to download easy debian???
no need to do some dual boot config if you ask me.... |

so you need resources for both OS. mer runs on its own and can use 100% of the resources. so i would think that mer is noticable faster than easy debian. (: |
