Well that's good news, would be great for Samsung to embrace developers (and I'm just thinking about releasing code and info, not even free hw), bring it on :)

So Samsung gets all this free publicity just for sending someone a free phone? On Men Men they paid two women to fight over a ham. This was probably cheaper.

Didn't nokia give out 400 n900s. They seem to have money contests, merit based and otherwise with free devices as well.

There's also a difference between sending a unit to the core developers your company hope will build a platform for you, and sending a unit to a hacker who is dedicated on removing whatever control you hope to have over given device. It's a bolder move, even if the cost is maybe 1/400.
This stunt may not only affect publicity but also marketing directly. I would probably not have bought the ZTE Blade if the cyanogen mod wasn't available for it. |
